Aside from this, the game of course has a cash shop where you can purchase "vanity items" and some potions and exp boosts. The cash shop items thankfully aren't as balance tipping as you would expect so there's still no great distinction for those who actually spent money in the game or not.。

The game's combo system is easy to learn but you do need to invest more time in making your combo transitions smooth and efficient if you ever want to succeed in the game’s PvP. This is where the repetitiveness of the gameplay tends to be the make or break for any player. If you're the type who doesn't really care that you keep on stringing the same combos, fight after fight, after fight, after fight then the game is just for you.。

 。

 。

 。

Divine Souls does away with the Priest stereotype and presents you with a soul scythe wielding, monster flinging, slayer. Yes that's right- Remember the game is an action MMO, so it wouldn't be right if you see a bible totting priest hitting everybody with the sacred tome of Christianity (cause that's just wrong).。

 。

Divine Soul's gameplay is set for fast-paced keyboard breaking action. The gameplay is highly streamlined to make players maximize the full "action" potential.  The game is highly skill based with the emphasis of keying in the correct button sequence for combos to deal out maximum damage. You don't play around with stat points in Divine Souls because everything is reliant on your job class choice, and the equipments your character has. Also the classes are gender locked, limiting your customization a bit.。

The agents that are sent by the government and interested parties represent the character job classes you will have to choose from. You have the staple general concept of melee, swordsman, magic and healer classes. These classes are mostly by the book MMORPG standard classes, however, the one thing that really jumped at me is the Priests, or the healer class.。

However, I can’t recommend the game to people who want a more deliberate and slow-paced game. When they advertise this as an action game, they are telling you just what to expect.。

 。

 。

 。

The game is also notable for allowing players to use controllers, especially for those who are more accustomed to playing games like this with a gamepad.。

The World Hub is set up in a pretty standard MMORPG fashion. An overworld exists in which you can interact and trade with other players. While major dungeons are instanced and set up for you to tackle by yourself or with a small group of friends.。

 。

Divine Souls is Outspark's 3D Action MMO. The game is set in a world where Divine Matter was discovered and used to help humanity surpassed their limitations. However, with great power comes great responsibility, and according to the game's story, the discovery unhinged the balance of nature. However the great nations in Divine Souls have decided to withhold final judgement on the substance despite the obvious warnings. This changes when the chief scientist responsible for discovering Divine Matter goes missing, his lab ransacked. Now the time has come for the government to act before a greater calamity occurs.。

 。

 。

The game is more suited for those seeking a fast-paced alternative to the MMORPG fantasy norms. In fact I can go as far as saying that if Grand Chase were ever turned into a 3D game, Divine Souls could be its soul successor of sorts.。

 。

If you want to peg Divine Soul's best feature, I'd say that the game's PVP system is its greatest strength. The game incorporates a healthy mix of PC action gaming and old school fighting game combo systems to produce a unique and competitive PvP atmosphere.。

In terms of Divine Soul's features, you have the staple MMO features such as a guild system, an achievement system and party systems. However the one game feature the stood out is the medal system.。

Divine Souls has incorporated a medal system that's tied to your achievements in-game. The medals serve both as bonus stat boosters and in-game titles. You have four slots to fill, allowing you to customize yourself to stand out from others sharing your class.。

When it comes to PVP-ing, your biggest foe… is the lag. People who have slow internet connections are in the mercy of those who have better ones. I personally can attest to getting my priest defeated time and time again by people who have a faster Internet connection, or closer proximity to the game servers. The only time I was able to kick anyone's ass is when I was faced with an enemy from the same geographical region as myself.。

 。

 。

 。

 。

 。

As expected, the game is fast paced and brutal, especially if your job class belongs to the fast hitters.  Muscle memory is your friend here. Also, what I liked about the game's PVP is that your equipment won’t save you from bad timing and poor strategy. Knowing how and exactly when to unleash a hellish combo is vital to turning a match to your favor.。

If I think about it, Divine Souls is a game that really delivers action as promised. The smooth transition between PVE and PVP is refreshing to experience, however the instanced dungeon questing gets old fast. While the game does have some other features in place, it won't hold anyone with short attention spans.

A bit of everything

Although we know that the MMO genre has branched its now subcategories, we cannot deny the fact that it only copied the shallow surface of the said game. How should I put this... We're very much aware that there are tons of MMO Fighting Games out there. Rumble Fighter, Grand Chase, GetAmped, and sure they all have different game play and gimmicks, but they do not share the very soul, which makes fighting games what they are. Let's see, MMO fighting games are usually mindless and are much similar to a beat em' up games compared to a pure fighter-based ones. There are no technicalities, no input precision, nothing but mashable buttons that instantly perform combos upon tapping the G key. If we compare it to old fighting games like Mortal Kombat 3 and Street Fighter 2, you'll see that they havefewer technicalities to offer despite the age difference.。

MMOs: A Pinch Of Everything (But Just A Pinch)
By Kei Beneza (dividelife), OnRPG Journalist。

Other MMO types

It's amazing how MMOs managed to broaden their scope by experimenting with different genres. We have Shooter MMOs, RTS themed ones, Fighter-based games, I'm sure you get the idea. The thing here is, MMOs may have all these genres locked in their multiplayer goodness, but let's not forget that it's merely a pinch of what their original genres are made of.。

Adding more!

One thing about this method of copying is that it also inspired the "copyee", forcing them to add online multiplayer functions to attain the same massively multiplayer charm. The funny part is that now, some games let players level up (or rank up) to unlock more content. Sounds familiar?。

Although we have established the fact that MMO games have copied elements from other games, it does not change the fact that they did personalize them with their own touches. Systems such as leveling up in fighting games and customizing your OWN fighter's move list can only be found in MMO fighting games. To encourage gamers to play more, these game clones (except for the RPG ones) allow players to level up.。

 。

 。

Believe it or not, the same thing applies to RPGs. Exactly what was the last single player RPG you played? For now let's keep an open mind. MMORPGs are the soul core of MMO game play. Not only are they the first form of MMO goodness, they're also the most played (not to mention the ones that divide like crazy). Yes, MMOs are superior when it comes to their player base, no doubt the world is breathing through theirmassive population. But aside from the whole aspect of population and interactivity, the world is stuck on a specific timeline. You're given a nice storyline about Old Gods and Elder Dragons with you being the mythical hero about to bring balance to the force or whatever. It's a good thing as RPG does mean ROLE PLAYING GAME, but to be stuck in a specific timeframe completely ignores the whole idea of you being the main character (mythical hero) of your own adventure. You may beat the elder dragon, but the story will always stay as is (with you preparing for what is yet to come), ignoring your accomplishments and the story you've established for your character even though you've practically solved the galactic problem.。

 。

 。

 。

If you think about it, MMOs were quite generic a few years ago. The game play concept was merely to put tons of players in a static world of grinding while allowing them to interact to fill up the holes left by the lack of content. One of the reasons why it was fun playing MMOs is that you will never be alone and MUST NEVER be alone to stand a chance against the persistent world. First off, the challenges offered cannot be soloed on most occasions, as players will eventually need the help of a party member in order to achieve their next level (not to mention their proper gear). Secondly, players also need to interact through combat for them to enjoy the game further. Since grinding can get old after a few hours of hacking and slashing, players needed another way to entertain themselves while recovering from the grind slump. Yes MMO gaming is fun, but just like any game, it also loses its shine once the users get used to the same repetitive game play.。

 。

 。

To broaden their horizons, MMOs ventured into other genres that have also captured the hearts of gamers, copying (or rather duplicating) a part of its game play goodness to allow MMOs to give these gamers a taste of their preferred genre along with some massively multiplayer add ons.  From FPSes to Browser games, the MMO virus (as I call it) has infected tons of other genres, allowing them to capture those who have not been impressed by the whole MMORPG fad. It's amazing how MMOs have spawned countless hybrids, constantly changing and mixing genres as they continue to attract new players.。

 。

A bit of everything

 。

A golden oldie

 。

 。

I think I've said "genre" and "MMO" a bit too much to prove my point; still; I hope I managed to explain it well. MMOs have copied a lot of genres and are  still copying some of the newer ones. They may have copied a pinch from each, but they did incorporate their own personal touch, allowing players to enjoy a different experience while playing the same thing. From rhythm games to browser games (would you believe it? BROWSER GAMES!), MMOs have expanded into what they are today, a gaming monster of variety. Isn't it amazing being able to play different genres inside a single one? Although it has worked its magic for some, other gamers (especially fighting game ones) can't accept games like Rumble Fighter as a real fighting game. So what are these games exactly? Is it a fighting game? A shooter, or an RPG maybe? Hell no... This my friend is an MMO... A little bit of everything, blended into one solid genre. The best part? It continues to grow as more games come out. ;)

Our friends at Aeria Games are bringing this game to us and frankly it was about time we saw something new from them. They didn't really have a side scrolling game yet so this will round out their impressive portfolio nicely.。

 。

The first quest he sends me on my way with is obviously designed to teach me how the shop and item system works in the game. For a side scrolling shooter the quest system seems fairly sturdy and the "Town" is nice and busy with lots of players... or is it?。

 。

 。

Holy heavy back stories Batman, where did that curveball come from? But I guess a bit of family intrigue, guilt and a healthy inferiority complex has never hurt a game's lore. I could mention FF7 again here but you get my point.。

Getting Metal Assault to run and play perfectly can be a bit of a hassle. I know LOTS of people who had no problem what so ever but the OnRPG team was unlucky I guess. Some of the other writers were unable to get it to run at all and I had to mess about with the sound settings to get it to behave well. We could have simply had some bad luck and the game IS still in beta so we hope these issues won't plague the game when it releases.。

Most of the people in this screenshot seem to be bots, people that logged off with a certain message clogging up the town interface. It does a good job of populating the town I guess so let's not fret on this too much.。

 。

 。

by Nic van't Schip (Nilax), OnRPG Journalist。

Again, as this is only the beta of the game I really hope that Aeria gets the developer to tweak this a bit. Two or three easy rounds at the beginning of a game would be nice as a warm-up but the majority of a game should feel like a challenge and not just the last two rounds.。

Be sure to check out our video preview!。

 。

 。

 。

The game is currently in beta still and we were not able to test the item mall. Everything else seems to work just fine however so let's get to the testing!。

As you can see in our game play video, the tactic of spawn camping in Cursed Forest is both extremely popular as well as ridiculously effective. The zombies simply aren't powerful or numerous enough until the last couple of rounds of each game to really endanger the players and this is a bit of a shame. This results in 80% of a game being a basic grinding exercise with only the last couple of rounds turning into the hectic and epic shooting and running that we expect from this game.。

 。

Marie seems to take the cake though in the "Box Counting Competition" with a whopping 65. She's the sniper of the team and according to her bio on the Metal Assault website she goes by the name of "Lil ‘Miss Headshot". I can imagine that with stats like hers headshots should be quite easy. She trades about a 3rd of her hitpoints for a massive advantage in stats.。

At first sight Metal Assault looks like the wet dream of any Metal Slug fanboi and fangurl. The game is wholly unapologetic about being a multiplayer version of the original arcade shooter. I know Metal Slug itself was multiplayer as well but hey, you couldn't play with 20 of your buddies at the same time could you?。

 。

Carl is your standard "in the middle" kind of character. He doesn't rule at anything but he also doesn't suck at anything. Many gamers will argue that this means he sucks at everything and rules at nothing but that's merely a matter of perspective.。

Burton is the tanky type character. He reminds me a lot of Barrett (FF7 but I didn't have to tell you that right?) because he's a big guy with a big gun and a black beard. Lots of people seem to play him like the Heavy in Team Fortress 2. To me it seems like he takes a serious hit in all his stats compared to Carl for a small increase in hitpoints. In fact if we count the number of little blocks on both characters we'll see that Carl has 57 and Burton only has 51... What an interesting concept of balance huh?。

 。

 。

Metal Assault gives you the choice between four distinctly different characters and even lets you customize them a bit, but more on that later.。

Once in the game you are asked if you want to take part in a Tutorial which I accepted. While being extremely basic and perhaps a tad slowly paced this part of the game does do a good job of showing that Metal Assault has character and a real sense of humor. The drill instructor type dude that is guiding us through the exercises cracks a joke or two and does a pretty effective job of teaching me how to run, jump, crouch, shoot and grenade my way through the game.。

PvP is extremely hectic and if it's your kind of thing I can imagine it'll be good for a lot of fun!
It will be interesting to see what the item mall will have in store (puns always intended) for this game and a couple of weeks after the game launched officially we'll be back with a full on review!。

 。

But now I'm eager to get to the real shooting. Via a lobby system we can join or start games. When I was online two maps in particular seemed extremely popular; Cursed Forest and Great Escape. Cursed Forest is a static map in which you have to defend your base camp against a constant onslaught of Zombies and Great Escape is a basement which, the name says it, you have to escape from.。

 。

 。

Ai is our fourth and last choice and rather than whine about her stats I want to in stead quote her background story from the Metal Assault website:。

 。 。

Ai's childhood was a struggle against her perfect sister, Maii, to gain their parents' attention. Unlike Ai, Maii excelled at everything she tried, from gymnastics to ballet to sharpshooting. Maii later became a war hero in the R.O.C. Ai's love and jealousy grew until an incurable illness struck Maii down behind enemy lines.。

 。

 。

Hoping to both surpass her sister's memory and alleviate her own guilt, Ai became determined to join the R.O.C. herself. She strives to both follow in Maii's footsteps and outperform her at every opportunity. Quick and nimble, Ai complements the team well as a forward scout.

Busch earns fifth Nationwide win

DARLINGTON, S.C. (AP)Kyle Busch finally broke through to win a Nationwide Series race at Darlington Raceway after near misses the past two years. Busch moved past Elliott Sadler 23 laps from the end and stayed in front of Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Denny Hamlin to win the Royal Purple 200 on Friday night, his fifth Nationwide victory this season and 48th overall - one behind Mark Martin's series record. But for all the success Busch has had in the series, he had been snakebit by ''The Lady in Black.''He led for 143 laps in 2009 before cutting a tire and finishing 16th, then was edged out by Hamlin a year ago with what he thought was the faster car. This time, Busch waited for his time as fellow Sprint Cup regulars Kasey Kahne and Carl Edwards took their turns at the top before falling back.''My car wasn't the best on the short run, but it seemed to really come to life on the long runs. It was really good, tera gold,'' Busch said.Sadler was third, series points leader Justin Allgaier fourth and Steve Wallace fifth.Busch led 49 laps, taking the lead for the fourth and final time on lap 124. He was helped by his decision to take on four fresh tires late in the race that kept him ahead of Hamlin, last week's Nationwide winner at Richmond International Raceway. Taking command NASCAR Nationwide Series regulars face a battle with Cup stars for race wins. Take a look at the 2011 Nationwide race winners here.''Talking about running with the 18 and beating the 18 are two different things,'' Sadler said. ''We all know how good he is in a Nationwide car.''Soon, Busch - the Sprint Cup winner last week in Richmond - might be the best ever. He's won nearly a quarter of his starts - 48 of 211 - and the 26-year-old star is poised to pass Martin.''We'll see when it happens, if it happens,'' Busch said about catching Martin. ''Maybe some of you say it's inevitable, but we just keeping working our guts out and making sure we bring good cars to the racetrack.''Martin collected his 49 wins in 22 seasons in Nationwide. Busch has won 37 series races since 2008.Busch plans to run Nationwide events at Dover and Charlotte later this month, ''so those are two really good places for me,'' he said. The race was a quick one, lasting less than two hours and involving only five cautions. The worst of the stoppages came on lap 95 with a multi-car accident that sent Brian Scott hard into the infield wall. The barrier had the SAFER walls to cushion Scott's hit, something Richmond International Raceway did not when Jeff Gordon hit an inside wall in last week's Sprint Cup race. Scott was not seriously hurt. The wreck also collected up Sprint Cup regulars Edwards, Kahne, Clint Bowyer and Brad Keselowski. All but Bowyer began in the top 10 after qualifying was rained out earlier Friday. Bowyer was scheduled to start second but was sent to the back of the field after missing roll call at the pre-race drivers' meeting.Alpha DogKyle Busch shares the limelight after his Nationwide victory.''I tried my hardest to miss that,'' said Edwards, who led 20 laps. ''But there was nothing we could do. We got lucky it wasn't torn up worse.''Edwards, the Sprint Cup points leader, finished 20th.Busch got away from the accident mostly unscathed and waited for his chance to pass Sadler.Hamlin said his JGR teammate had the better car and fresher tires.''We didn't have enough for him,'' Hamlin said.Busch called on patience to pull him through. He was comfortable sitting behind Sadler, who was burning up worn tires trying to hold on. ''I waited a little bit to see if I could Elliott to make a mistake,'' Busch said. ''It'd be easier for me to get by him.''When Sadler mixed up with lapped traffic, Busch was able to clear him in the third and fourth turns and win by nearly 4 seconds.James Hylton, 76, became the oldest driver to start a race in NASCAR's top three series when he rolled out Friday night. However, Hylton, whose first Sprint Cup event came in 1964, lasted only two laps before heading to the garage.
