Elsword Manga Platforming Perfection

By Remko Molenaar (Proxzor), OnRPG Journalist Elsword Online is a free-to-play, two dimensional side scrolling MMORPG. Elsword is a very popular Asian game developed by the South Korean company KOG Studios. It has now come to the US and I will be giving this game a fair shot to look how this game makes itself unique compared to other side scrolling MMORPGs. This manga oriented MMORPG is a popular franchise currently running in Asia and its taking the next step of releasing in Europe and America. This game is all about the fast paced stylish combat so let’s get to the details! The first impression when I got into the game is the cute music in the background that is extremely relaxing. Beyond this, the anime style this game uses is quite eye catching. When you first start up the game you can select a server, currently there is only one to pick from right now. There are several different channels; these channels have different level requirements so it is easily divided for everyone. After picking the corresponding channel it is time to create your character. There are currently four classes to pick from, each of these classes have different abilities and weapons that they are using. If you prefer melee types you can choose between Raven and Elsword. If you prefer range over melee you can pick between Aisha and Rena. The characters based off of their manga counterparts, which explains the odd class naming. I went with Rena as she has a good mix of range and melee combat options so I would get the best of both worlds. The current classes that are in the game are Aisha, Elsword, Raven and Rena. All the characters have different stories from the past and follow one main story that starts off with defending the El.Aisha is the mage class currently available in Elsword. She is equipped with a staff and possesses the abilities of magic and great sorcery. At the young age of 12, she traveled with her Grandfather to discover ancient magic ruins. He was an old wise man and taught her all his secret magical arts as they journeyed together. At the peak of her power, she discovered an ancient ring that deviously absorbed and transferred her magical powers to someone else. In order to retrieve her powers back, she sets off on a journey to find the person who swindled her of her strength. The Elsword is a melee class that uses the Great Sword as weapon. He was trained to use the Great Sword at a young age and excelled above all. Elsword’s sister was the leader of the Red Knights. Since childhood, she rigorously trained him to become one of the Red Knights. However, she soon left Elsword to pursue a greater mission for the Red Knights. Elsword wanted his sister to recognize him as a strong warrior and soon joined the Kingdom’s El Search Party. Even so his sister still did not acknowledge him to be strong enough. Elsword has now set out on a journey to become the leader of the strongest El Search party in order to gain his sister’s trust. The Raven is a class that uses a Nasod Arm along with a Blade to fight against his enemy. Raven, a commoner from the Kingdom of Velder worked hard to become the Head Captain of the Crow Mercenary Knights. Being a commoner in such a high ranking position caused jealousy to arise from the nobles and they decided to bring false accusations against him. Although he was rescued by his followers, Velder’s soldiers surrounded him, his fiancée, and his friends in the forest and slaughtered them. Raven however survived the incident and awoke with devices attached all over his body in a Nasod capsule. Reborn with a Nasod arm and a blade on the right hand, he fought unconsciously to destroy the kingdom he once protected. That is until he is shown the weakness of seeking revenge by Elsword and joins forces to find the El Shards and atone for his sins.Rena is a range class that uses the Bow along with body techniques to defeat her enemies. She provides long range attacks using a bow and the ability to double jump. Rena is a fairy living in the forest’s outskirts. One day she mysteriously lost her sense to commune with the spirits. She soon discovers that the weakening power of El is to blame for causing a split in the mortal and spiritual world. This news causes Rena to drop her peaceful ways as she begins a violent crusade to restore the spiritual link created with El. Rena felt the resonance of the El from the Tree of Light and soon sets out on a journey to find it. She believes that the Tree of Light will help her find the missing magic of El.Elsword can be played alone and with a party, follow the quest line to get to various different dungeons along with several different end bosses. Elsword is a really fun side scrolling MMORPG that uses a rather unique gameplay style. Every class has its unique style of play and I had fun with both melee and range. After a while I decided I preferred melee over range. Although its not nearly as safe playing Rena at melee range, the action is much more intense and overall more fun.Once you complete dungeons you unlock the privilege of replaying them on a harder difficulty, though you might want to team up with friends for this. Luckily the community is quite active and outgoing so finding groups to run dungeons with was never a challenge. And even if it was, the amount of fun I had playing this game grew exponentially when playing in a party compared to solo play.Beyond running dungeons, there is a lot of ways players can coordinate as a community in this game. There is a great crafting system in place and the PvP modes are always popular. Town shops similar to old school games like Ragnarok and Maplestory also add a feeling of community not always found in modern games. The Graphics are really beautiful for a side scrolling game while putting minimum strain on PCs to play it. As long as you have a dedicated video card your computer should be more than able to handle them. At minimum its recommended to have a GeForce FX5700/Ati Radeon 9600 Radeon video card along with a Pentium 4 processor. These video cards are at least 10 years old so even an ancient computer made out of twigs and stones should be able to run this game just fine.As I mentioned before, this game plays as if you were running through slides of a Manga. The overall graphics are wonderful and the combat is stylized to the point that you really feel each attack you deal is cinematic and epic. The real fireworks begin when you unleash combo attacks with your team against a boss monster. Sometimes it’s hard to focus on all the action because of the sheer amount of detail put into the background of each match. Heck sometimes the background will launch attacks at you so I guess that isn’t a bad thing!Elsword is a really beautiful and fun side scrolling MMORPG. You can easily play solo or grab a few friends as you progress through the story and dungeon crawl to collect crafting items. Something that really set this game apart from most MMOs is the storyline is intriguing and worth reading. Each character has a unique personality that helps draw you in and make you feel connected to the gaming world. Unfortunately the voice overs are still in their native language but that isn’t always a bad thing. This game is very casual friendly and a great pick up and play action game for people that don’t have large amounts of time to invest in an MMO. I recommend that all platformer gamers try this game out!ColbyCheeze also recently did a playthrough for Elsword. Be sure to check out his impressions video coming later today!

Bungie's PS3, 360 stormer First-look vid

Bungie has lifted the lid on its Activision-published cross-platform game for the first time ever - revealing what appears to be a new logo. The final few minutes of new (amazing), hour-long documentary O Brave New World discusses the Activision project in-depth. As we know you're all busy peeps, we've sliced the section out for you to check out below. The logo comes right near the end - complete with dramatic music. Intriguingly, we're told that the project - expected for release on PS3, 360 and PC - will "at some point" become "more the fans' than [Bungie's] and that it will "take a life of its own". The game will also "reach players in ways we haven't before". Could we be in MMO territory here?"I want the fans to know that we did Halo because we wanted to do Halo, and we did ODST because we wanted to do ODST, and we did Reach because we wanted to do Reach," says Martin O'Donnell Audio director. "But now we want to do something brand new. Now we want to do something different." Bungie was previously owned by Microsoft, but split with the company back in 2007 to become independent. The firm signed an exclusive deal with Activision in April last year. CVG Staff

Nintendo's Star Fox inspired by... Thunde

In its latest 'Iwata Asks', Nintendo has delved into the ideas behind its beloved flight combat/rail shooter title Star Fox - and its influences are surprisingly close to home. Quizzed on the decision to use anthropomorphic animals as characters in the game, Nintendo think-tank Shigeru Miyamoto replied by saying "most of the sci-fi in Japan back then was robot anime, superheroes and monsters" and that he "wasn't interested in doing the same thing".According to Miyamoto he'd been drawing animal characters for a while and the team decided to use them since they would seem so out of place in a shooting game and therefore would be memorable."I had been drawing animal characters for a long time, so I suggested animal characters to Imamura-san. He was surprised," he explained. "We were like, 'But animal characters in a shooting game?' and then 'That's precisely why it would have impact!'Speaking about the Super Famicom version, which used puppets for its box art, Miyamoto revealed he "always loved English puppet drama, like the Thunderbirds".Apparently the father of Mario liked Thunderbirds so much that he "imagined Star Fox selling a lot and the company that produced Thunderbirds coming all the way from England for negotiations to adapt it into a puppet drama". It's a shame it never happened, Miyamoto-san.Star Fox 64 is making its way to the 3DS next month. Cast your eyes on this five minute gameplay video to see how it's shaping up. Tamoor Hussain

Walmart flyer points to US Xbox 360 price

Walmart is reportedly planning to slash $50 off the price of the Xbox 360 4GB Kinect hardware bundle from this Sunday, August 28. That's according to a flyer obtained by Joystiq, which reveals that one of the world's largest retailers is planning a "rollback" on the price, from $299 to $249.This doesn't necessarily mean an official Xbox 360 price reduction is inbound. It could merely be a special promotion, but it wouldn't be the first time a Walmart circular has outed news of a price cut either.Xbox 360 is the top-selling console in the US year-to-date, but the introduction of a global PS3 price cut last week is likely to force Microsoft to react sooner or later. Golden Joysticks heading towards stronges

It's Bank Holiday and you've probably got at least a few hours to sink into the Internet vortex. Why not spend all of about five of those minutes voting in this year's GamesMaster Golden Joystick Awards? You'll be joining the 180,000+ gamers who have already voted since it opened for business on August 1 - an early sign that this year's awards is heading towards it's biggest year ever.As if you didn't know already, the GJAs is a chance to voice your opinions on what were the best games of the last year. In a first for 2011 the games were nominated by a panel of games editors using genre-led categories. This has allowed for more games in the shortlist phase and the inclusion of some surprise nominations. Some of us on CVG have got our oar in already, but that's just our opinions - now it's time for you to help decide which of the shortlisted games should win. It's been made it even easier (and hopefully 'fun') to take part this year, with a dedicated voting site and the ability to vote only in categories you actually care about. However, if you do decide to vote in all, you'll be entered into a prize draw to win the Ultimate Gaming Prize including gaming laptops, PlayStation Vita and a huge stack of nominated games. If you're new here and want a quick introduction to the awards, including the Award ceremony where winners will be announced on October 21st, check out the video below. Also, if you're a games writer and want to attend the Golden Joystick Awards as part of the media, head over to the Golden Joystick Awards Facebook Page and let us know. CVG Staff

If you manage to overcome the challenges, just when you think it's over, you'll make a startling revelation..."In addition to the new campaign, the update will add to your current arsenal with new weapons, which you'll need to take care of new enemies you've not faced before. Nintendo sued over Wii Remote technology

Nintendo has been sued by technology firm ThinkOptic for allegedly knowingly infringing on one of its patents. The patent in question manages to make the Wii Remote sound like the dullest object in the world. It describes "electronic equipment for handheld vision based absolute pointing system". ThinkOptic claims Nintendo knew (or should have known) ahead of time that it would be infringing on the patent with the release of the Wii.Two other patents are also mentioned in the case, one describing a "Handheld Device for Handheld Vision Based Absolute Pointing System" and another outlining a "Handheld Vision Based Absolute Pointing System".With the above in mind, ThinkOptic has claimed that Wii U will also infringe on its patents. It's not been a good morning for Nintendo, particularly if rumours of troubled Wii U development prove to be true. 250GB Xbox 360 gets matte finish

The slim Xbox 360 is currently available in 250GB and 4GB variations, the first with a shiny finish and the second with a matte one. But this autumn Microsoft will reportedly launch the 250GB model with a matte finish, basically meaning less fingerprints and other marks. We've got some images that were released to press, but no other official details from Microsoft. We've sent the company a mail asking about it though.Late last month, Microsoft announced a new Xbox 360 wireless Bluetooth headset and Media Remote set for release this November. Tom Ivan

The ratings carry the PS3 and Xbox 360 as platforms.Other than that it's what you'd expect - blood, violence and "suggestive themes". Tom Pakinkis

3 million Dirt 3 Steam keys leaked online

Steam codes for an estimated three million copies of Codemasters' Dirt 3 have reportedly been accessed and distributed online. Kotaku says they originate from a promotion being run by Codies and graphics card manufacturer AMD, which has been offering card buyers a free digital copy of the excellent racer.Millions of download codes put aside for the promotion were reportedly accessed and passed around the net. Codemasters told us this afternoon that AMD's redemption site had been compromised, rather than one of the publisher's own sites or servers. AMD is expected to issue a public statement on the matter and we'll update this story when we get it.As pointed out in the original report, Codies or Valve could simply move to block the codes for the game, presuming they kept a record of them. Steam bans are another possible option. Tom Ivan

A Tale in the Desert The Sandy Old MMO

By Remko Molenaar (Proxzor), OnRPG Journalist Have you always been fascinated by the work of Egyptians? eGenesis introduces you to A Tale in the Desert and will show you how people in the old Egypt crafted tools and handled their own business. Instead of killing monsters and gaining equipment and other features a normal MMORPG possesses, A Tale in the Desert teaches you how to craft your own set of tools to create items that you might need to unlock new technology. When you first start up the game and make yourself a new character it is time to learn the basics of A Tale in the Desert. You will start to learn how to gather wood and learn some other important crafting options through one of the schools or universities that are scattered all over the map. You can visit these schools that will help you learn to create some helpful tools. Leveling up your skills is done by crafting the same object over and over; after a while your character gets the hang of it and its success rate to craft that item will be higher. After the short tutorial you are given a list that you will need to find and create. After you have done everything that is put on the list, you will be an official citizen and can join the community in various projects. The crafting in this game is very easy, fun to use, and not terribly difficult to learn. For example, slate is found near water and with two pieces of slate you can make yourself a Stone Blade. With this Stone Blade and some wood you can make yourself a wood plane. This wood plane is useful for making wooden planks that can be used for other crafting recipes.Every skill and project that you have obtained is found by clicking on your character. Here a list of all available actions is presented in one easy menu. This also includes your fluff skills such as emotes. And if you want to change the looks of your character you can head over to the appearance tab to edit your avatar. If you are lost you can activate a compass along with using the positioning of the sun to find your way. Of course for the less adventurous, coordinates are provided to give you a general idea where you are on the world map.In the bottom left of your screen you can find your item menu. In the Items list you can find the items that you have gathered and have created in the world of A Tale in the Desert. You will also see how much you are carrying with you in terms of weight and bulk. Next to the items is a skill tab which allows you to keep track of your various skill progressions. There are so many skills in this game it made my head spin so you’ll be glad to have such a well presented menu organizing them all for you.Overall the objective of the game is simple. Do what you want! As a sandbox game you are free to just have fun and try to achieve whatever goal you care about at the time. If you are one of the hardcore players, you can aim to become to top of one of the seven schools and even gain a say in how the next iteration of the world will be designed after the world reaches its conclusion and resets. Currently A Tale in the Desert is just beginning Tale 5 so there’s still time to aim for the top.A tale in the Desert is quite an old game already and the graphics show this off. The game isn’t really looking that great and feels a little empty. Even though you have to create most of the environment yourself it feels a little dull and boring. To play this sandbox game you will need to have a Pentium 700Mhz processor along with 512 MB of RAM. You will also need to have at least a Geforce MX or a Radeon 9600+ video card in your rig running. If you have no idea what this means and you have no idea what kind of computer you’re currently running right now. I’d say everyone with a computer that is made in the last 10 years is easily able to run this game without any trouble.A Tale in the Desert is a fun game to learn about Ancient Egypt. The crafting element is everything in this game and designed well enough to keep you entertained for hours. Once in a while the world will reset itself and the law that is made up by all the players is deleted and started over so this game has a different outcome every time. Unfortunately there are still things that annoyed me during my play. The camera physics are ancient, unwieldy, and downright frustrating to maneuver. For looking around you have to place your mouse at the edge of your screen and looking up or down is not possible. A Tale in the Desert is a fun game but there’s no way it can compete in today’s market as a P2P game. Nonetheless A Tale in the Desert is a fun game to play that will teach you some history about the old Egypt, and lets you socialize with others in a way that doesn’t involve bashing heads in for once.

Microsoft announces Halo Anniversary 3D

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is set to feature a stereoscopic 3D mode on Xbox 360, Microsoft has announced. CVG got a sneak peak at the mode at Gamescom last week, where new Halo house 343 Industries showed off the game's rebuilt Guilty Spark level with a pair of 3D glasses attached to our faces. It's definitely one of the better 3D modes we've seen in action on current-gen consoles, with the chief's monstrously overpowered magnum recoiling out of the screen."If you've got the technology you definitely want to take advantage of it," said 343's Dennis Reis."Guilty Spark is a fun level to show 3D because you're in the jungle, you've got foliage going by, plasma bolts flying over your head... it's a fun way to increase the immersion of the game and again if you've got the technology, you definitely want to take advantage of it."Halo joins a small - yet growing - list of 3D Xbox 360 games, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, Crysis 2 and just-announced addition Gears of War 3.Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is due out on November 15. Street Fighter X Tekken video onslaught

Didn't make it to the San Diego Comic Con last week? That's okay, because Capcom has uploaded so much video from its Street Fighter X Tekken demo on show there that you could be here all day.Below is just one video. It's half-an-hour long gameplay taken directly from the action on the SDCC booth, and there are plenty more where that came from. Still, if you're one of those crazy Street Fighter types that sees the frames and timings in the moves of these games at Matrix-reading levels of complexity, you might get something out of watching these button-bashers play.

Legends of Xian - Historic Chinese Action

By Bryan King (Bryan), OnRPG JournalistLegends of Xian is adapted from Ming Dynasty, which is one of China’s most popular web games in 2010. Legends of Xian is a perfect combination of RPG, strategy, adventure and various styles. Based on history of China’s Ming Dynasty, jimmy choo outlet, the entire game features vintage character design, vast territories throughout ancient China, diversified game systems, and unique game setting. You'll have fun in heroic adventure, affairs management, level upgrade, and unforgettable battles; you'll find tons of in-game events, diversified equipment & a huge weapon refining system, an interesting slave system, and an exciting arena system. Legends of Xian’s character creation allows you to choose between three states within the ancient Chinese Ming Dynasty:Yongle State – Occupying the Central and northeastern areas, famous for its brave citizens and lionhearted warriors.Wanli State – Located in the northwest, noted for its valiant heroes from successive wars against the northern invaders.Hongwu State – Situated in the southern fertile lands, contains rich resources, and has an advanced economy and a powerful army. The sense of nationalism instilled in the early character customization is quite an interesting way to spark up rivalry between new players. Once you choose one of these three factions, their appearance doesn’t mean much, however, cheap jimmy choo, because their map design and playing style plays the same. Upon logging in, I was greeted by rather impressive, authentic Chinese music as opposed to many Chinese dynasty browser games. The music just has a soulful, well-produced ambience about it that many oriental based games seem to lack. Sound was very responsive, with each menu having a stylized “click” or confirm tool that wasn’t an annoyance, and can easily be turned off within the game’s extensive options system. The only annoyance I found within the game was within the combat sound’s confines. The repetitive slashing noises constantly droned on in all aspects of combat, including when my entire army consisted of… archers. I hope the LoX team addresses this. The game’s UI and graphics are pretty standard for a F2P browser game, especially considering how much information has to be handled by the player at once, between Buildings, Technology, Units, Unit Equipment, and so on and so forth, the game does a decent job of handling a sensory visual overload in a somewhat sleek and easy to explain interface. The game’s models look crisp, but it’s nothing stunning or spectacular. If you’re looking for client-oriented graphics, jimmy choo boots, you won’t find it here. However, if you want a well-represented expectation of Ancient Chinese combat and management, you’ll find it here. For the most part, Legend of Xian’s gameplay hovers around basic PvE and PvP combat, however, players will find that this system later branches out into an open PK mode, siege battles, state wars, and clan wars. Considering this is all set up in a browser-game is an impressive feat. The game’s introduction allows a smooth transition into the combat, and by smooth… I mean almost a slippery slope. The first problem I encountered was how unchallenging the content was, for the first ten levels of my experience, I didn’t even see more than one move in battle, I killed all of my enemies in one shot, even when I was severely outnumbered in terms of population numbered. Every single time, I got “perfect victory”, returned to town, gave the NPC the quest item they wanted, and I was showered in EXP, resources, gold, and so on and so forth. The translation within the game is not perfect either, I often found myself stumped and confused at random NPC blurts (“I’VE WAITING BEEN!”) within the game, often getting in the way of me absorbing what I needed to do for the quest. This is a lukewarm aspect of the game, and the other features of the game are much more enticing than the game’s overall gameplay polish.Legends of Xian excels in the prospects of sound and has many enticing features that may just make it worth trying after a lazy day at work, or in short bursts of time. However, the gameplay does not make the game as worthwhile to play as more polished. If you’re a Chinese history nut, this game does provide some authentic information in an active environment for you to enjoy.+ Game’s music is very well done. + UI is streamlined for an accessible experience + Well done storyline.- Boring and unchallenging gameplay - Quest and NPC translation are distracting and lackluster - Combat sounds repetitiveGraphics/Sound – 4/5 Gameplay – 2/5 Features 3/5

PlayStation Vita Launch Window To Include

Sony has announced that there will be 100 PlayStation Vita titles available during the Vita launch window. Unfortunately it wasn't exactly made clear during their press conference just when the window starts or when it goes until, jimmy choo outlet, but that's a hell of a lot of games. Some that were mentioned include FISH ON, Dynasty Warriors, LittleBigPlanet 2, Wipeout, UMC, Uncharted, Enverybvodys Golf, Ridge Racer, Michael Jackson, jimmy choo boots, Field, BlazBlue Extend, and Lord of Apocylpse. Titles like Tales of Innocence, Gravity Daze, Metal Gear Solid HD Edition, Fifa, and others will follow sometime after launch. Does this many games seem too ambitious for the PS Vita's launch, cheap jimmy choo, or are you excited about all of the variety?

PS3-60 Bethesda exec calls for single co

,jimmy choo boots

Bethesda Softworks game director Todd Howard has revealed that he's keen for the industry to adopt a one console as standard. Speaking to PSM3,jimmy choo outlet, Howard - also executive producer on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - was asked which one thing he would change about working in the games market. He responded by saying he feels it takes a lot of effort to create a game for multiple platforms and would like to see games follow the same path of DVDs and Blu-rays."I'd like there to be only one platform. It's a lot of work to make the games look good on every platform you're on," said Howard."I often equate it to DVD or Blu-Rays. Once I've bought a DVD I can use it in my TV, in my computer, in my car, here, whatever. And I think it would be good for gaming if it was like that," he added. The 'One-console future', as it has come to be known, cheap jimmy choo, was famously put forward by Silicon Knights founder Dennis Dyack, who said it would be a "massive paradigm shift" that would lead to games becoming "better in quality, cheaper, and more widely available".However, while Dyack said it is an inevitability, Howard acknowledges it isn't necessarily a realistic future."They spend billions of dollars selling consoles at a loss for years, but then make the money back with games," he commented. "It's not like the industry is hurting, we're doing really well. But if I had one wish, you know, we would have better games for a single platform."Former SCEE president David Reeves told CVG last year that he could envisage a future in which Sony and Microsoft joined forces to create a single machine. Starcraft 2 Journey to Diamond League Wk8

By Mohammad Abubakr, OnRPG JournalistIf you missed any of the previous weeks in my journey to diamond league, check out the Starcraft II review section. (http://www.onrpg.com/MMO/Starcraft-II/reviews)Games played: 10 Initial Rank: Silver - 42 Final Rank: Silver - 38 Win/Loss: 5/5The first game in week eight of my journey to diamond league was against a Protoss. My opponent decided to open with the four gate pressure build. This is an all-in build as players continue to warp in units and do not focus on their economy. This means that if their opponent is able to hold the attacks without taking significant damage, they are in trouble. After getting cheesed and fending off all-ins all of last week, I continuously scouted my opponent. I did see four gates in his base very early on but no sign of units; there was only one zealot to block the ramp. I thought it was safe to continue droning and building up an economy but a large army took me by surprise. The Protoss race has the ability to warp in units anywhere there is a pylon. My opponent simply hid a pylon on the map and continued to warp in an army at a hidden location. Since I was unprepared and only had drones, I was unable to fend off the attack. I did not have a lot of experience against proxy pylons so I was not expecting this; I'll be sure to stop scouting only their bases and begin looking at the entire map.The following game I tried a hatch first build against a Protoss for the very first time. I was very lucky that he was located as far as possible from my base so I was safe from early aggression. The early expansion allowed me to enhance my income very early. As the game progressed I was too far ahead with my four bases against his two. I was able to reinforce my army a lot quicker than him which resulted in his base being overrun.Later that day I was put up against another Protoss. He played very passively and continued to increase his army size. He was most likely trying to max out his army and then finish the game. However, that is very hard to do on one base. He expanded very late and by that time my mutalisks were able to continuously poke his expansion, denying mining time. After realizing how far ahead I was, I simply morphed a large army and finished him.My game against a Zerg did not go so well. I did my typical 14 pool 14 gas opening and then transitioned into banelings after saturating my expansion. My opponent was commanding a roach army; banelings are not very good against roaches. I thought I would be fine since I moved over to produce mutalisks as they are good against roaches. However, I made a very big mistake to clump up my mutalisks. This was a very bad move because his army contained infestors.Infestors have an amazing spell called fungal growth which targets an area to snare and apply damage over time to units. Normally it takes multiple fungal growths to kill an entire army but I made a huge mistake. I clumped up my mutalisks so that one fungal growth would hit them all. After my mutalisks were dead, I was unable to fend off his roaches with just zerglings and banelings. I was forced to concede.Recently I have been facing a lot of opponents that decide to construct their second base not at their natural. This allows them to give the illusion of only having one base as opponents assume they have not expanded after checking their natural expansion. This strategy does not seem very viable to me as if your hidden expansion gets scouted, you will have a difficult time defending it.A Zerg player tried this strategy against me. At first I was unaware of his hidden expansion and though he was going to do a one base all-in. I continued to scout his base to allow myself to see when the attack was coming and to learn what tech paths he was taking. When I saw enemy mutalisks in my base coming from an odd direction, I knew something was up. Firstly, mutalisks are quite hard to support on only one base because they take a lot of vespene gas; each base only has two gas geysers. Secondly, the mutalisks approached from an odd angle. Finally, there was no spire in his main base. After I located his hidden expansion I was easily able to deny mining time by attacking both bases simultaneously. Since he did not have any creep connecting his bases as an attempt to keep it hidden, he was unable to defend. The final game we will talk about this week was against a Terran. The Terran player played very passively but continued to deny scouting information. I should have known something was up but I did not react. When cloaked banshees showed up at my base I had nothing to detect them with. I quickly setup some evolution chambers to get out some spore crawlers but too much damage was done. If I had remembered that I could morph overlords into overseers to get detection, I would easily have been able to hold with three queens. However, I completely forgot about overseers and was forced to concede.I achieved my goal of ranking higher than my initial rank. Hopefully this trend will continue and my rank will rise even higher next week.If there are any suggestions or feedback about this series, please let me know on the OnRPG forums (http://www.onrpg.com/boards/) @ Abubakr (http://www.onrpg.com/boards/member-abubakr.html). Alternatively you may message me in Starcraft II (Abubakr, 109).

Resistance 3 reviews call game 'refreshin

Resistance 3 reviews haven't been published yet, but that hasn't stopped developer Insomniac spilling early play testers' positive reactions to the PS3 exclusive FPS. "Generally it's been positive so far. Everything that we've heard and that's been out there has been very positive," senior designer Cameron Christian told CVG in London this afternoon.Writer Jon Paquette added: "They feel like it's refreshing, it's a good ending to the trilogy and a great chapter of Resistance. Reviewers have said so far it's the best Resistance yet."That's great to hear, but at the same time I try not to worry about what other people say... I just want people to play the game, to be honest. I'm excited for people to be able to buy it, take it home and experience it."It's looking promising for the Move-ready shooter then, and what we've seen of it in action so far has looked very, very good.Resistance 3 is out on September 9. Perpetuum More Than Just Mechs

By Vincent Haoson, OnRPG Journalist Perpetuum: Terra Incognita is a new subscription based sci-fi MMORPG from Avatar Creations. The game focuses on the concept of companies/conglomerates trying to get the most resources out of the planet Nia with you as part of their "workforce".For a subscription based MMORPG, I must say that Perpetuum looks pretty shabby compared to the bigger titles out there. Your "robot" is blocky and the visuals lack the oomph you'd find even in free to play games.I don't know though if this is related to the world you're supposed to explore and mine, but it seems that the game never loses the color gray. While the game description puts Nia as a world that's similar to Earth, the planet feels more like cybertron instead of Gaia. It doesn't help that Nia is in fact filled with "synthetic" creatures which you'll have to destroy with either guns or rockets to emphasize its cyber-tronish characteristics more. While Perpetuum does muck things up with the Earth-likeness of Nia, the game at least conveys a world that hits its mark as far as sci-fi is concerned.Being that Perpetuum revolves around the story of commerce, mining and territory building, the game jumps between mining, earning resources, PVE-ing and PVP-ing. Before you jump to the conclusion that Perpetuum is action-packed with arcade-style controls, I will set you straight. The game plays more like a RTS game rather than your usual action-based space themed MMOs. While you control only one ship, your tactics will play a key role in the success of failure of each mission.Perpetuum allows you to fully customize your "mech". The customization options remind me of the console game Armored Core where your mech's look is determined by the parts you equip it with. Equipping parts to your robot isn't an easy task as anyone with experience with MMOs would expect. You have to actually mix and match the parts so that it fits to your intended task for the said robot. You also have to juggle with the limitations set by the capabilities of certain parts which hails back to the customization feature of Armored Core where the parts you can equip is determined by the power of the core generation of said AC robot. All this remains true in Perpetuum.Aside from equipping your mech in Perpetuum your robot's strengths and weaknesses are also determined by how you build up your "pilot". This is set from the start via the choice of alliance your pilot has and focus on what skills your "pilot" should have. You can further determine this in-game every time your character levels up. Perpetuum uses a more customization friendly setup because the game let's you choose the "skills" your character can acquire. While the customization of the mech is pretty thorough, the avatar creation is on a whole different plane but not in a good way. Yes you can "tweak" your avatar's look you don't really see it in action. The only use for your avatar is for the headshot of your character shown in your "character screen" and that's about it. I should also add that your character's headshot is comic to look at. It's pretty obvious that Avatar Creations didn't really put a lot of effort in the avatar creation compared to the other "customization" aspects of the game and that's forgivable in my book since you won't really bother with your avatar in the long run.As I mentioned earlier, Perpetuum jumps between mining, PVE-ing and PVP-ing. The game uses a consistent open world PVP system with only one server to promote not only community building but also a "supposedly" intense PVP experience for players.Battling monsters and other characters requires you to prep your targeting system while "arming" your weapon systems. You also have to work with the range of your weapons before you can start firing at your targets. Fighting low leveled monsters can even be a pain if you come in guns-a-blazin'. In fact there will be times that you have to be in a group to win the low level mobs since- they are tend to group up and will tear you apart before you have time to even snipe off one.Perpetuum has a pretty solid community for a starting MMO. Once you get into the game you are welcomed by a GM who's tasked to help new players out in understanding the game. Aside from that the community chat is vibrant with players both helpful and not. However I can't really give my final verdict for the game's community since it's still new and based on experience sometimes communities which start out as great have the tendency to turn bad once more players come in. So I'll let you decide on that one.Overall, Perpetuum is a solid MMO that gives players a lot more customization features than your normal sci-fi MMO. Personally I don't think that the game's visuals merit this to be a subscription based game, however its robust customization and gameplay systems would make it worthwhile. With the way things are standing for Perpetuum, Avatar Creations have to be consistent with the updates because the game is specialized to hit a target market of gamers who want more "personal touches" in their sci-fi MMOs.My few gripes aside from the game's visuals are that the interface is cluttered. While yes, you have the power to customize your interface’s looks, the menus are vast and required so a bit of clutter is a necessary evil to stay efficient. Aside from the cluttered interface, the controls can be quite a handful and complicated so you can't just jump in and play without going through the game's tutorial. This can be a deal breaker for a lot of people who'd like to jump into the game as soon as they made their characters but I think this is a good "filter" for the quality of players who would actually spend time (and money) on the game.Perpetuum is a game that appeals to the more "hardcore" sci-fi gamers or at least to the people tired of the daily grind of the standard industry MMO.Graphics - 2/5 Controls - 3/5 Features - 3/5 Customization - 5/5 Community - 4.5/5

PlayStation 3 and PSP owners in Europe and the U.S. can now download the freebies Sony promised last month during the PSN outage. Keep in mind everyone trying to download inFamous at once is bound to cause some network congestion.

Xbox Live Chief We Don't Want to Appear

In the throes of the 23-day PlayStation Network Outage, when people were vowing they'd sell their PS3s and go join Xbox Live, Microsoft's most provocative comment was a low-key prediction that it would see more traffic on its service. Yesterday, though, Xbox's senior executive finally said what's bad for the goose is bad for the gander."It's bad for the industry that this has happened to Sony," Dennis Durkin, the chief operating officer of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business, told IndustryGamers. "[W]e don't wish that upon anybody and you've seen we've been actually pretty quiet on the subject because we don't want to appear to even be looking to be taking advantage of somebody else's situation like that. That's just not in our DNA," he said. It's polite and professional, and just plain sensible PR, to not revel in your rivals' multibillion-dollar misfortunes. But what probably inform's Durkin's there-but-for-the-grace-of-God perspective is the fact that Xbox Live is shifting its attention to "the cloud," i.e. to servers that the bad guys can (and, likely, eventually will) attack. So while Durkin says Microsoft does "everything it can to be sure users' data is secure," he did say that "it is the consumer's responsibility also to do a number of things to try to protect their data," such as not using the same password across multiple sites, especially super-important ones. Dark Age of Camelot A Simpler Time of MMO

By Remko Molenaar (Proxzor), OnRPG JournalistDark Age of Camelot is a Pay-to-Play 3D MMORPG that revolves around the war of the realms following King Arthur’s rule. This medieval fantasy MMORPG is developed and published by Mythic Entertainment on October 10, 2001. The world revolves around dragons, magic and massive battlegrounds. This game has been out for a while but OnRPG never gave it a really close look. I volunteered to step into the realms and see why so many consider this one of the greatest MMORPGs of all time. Not only is this game focused on defeating monsters found in dungeons, but the open world and RvR zones challenge the player to participate in huge PvP battlegrounds to earn further loot.Once the player starts up the game and selects a server, they are offered the choice between three realms. These realms are Albion, Hibernia and Midgard. A detailed history of the age of King Arthur I is available on Dark Age of Camelot’s official page. It’s definitely worth checking out if you love intricate storylines and intend to really get immersed in this game. Albion is through and through the land of Arthur. Forged from his iron will, paid for by the blood of Knights and commoner alike, Albion encompasses the ideals, the laws, and the heritage of its most famous King. The people of Albion are mostly homogenous, sturdy Britons, hulking Highlanders, graceful swift Saracens, and the tall intelligent Avalonians. The small, mysterious Inconnu along with the bestial Half-Ogres add a dash of the exotic to the Realm.Hibernia is the closest to nature and magic of all the Realms. Their heritage has long honed its citizens to channel the forces of magic and unleash its destructive force on their enemies. Human Celts and the almost-giant Firbolg live in close harmony with forest, glen, and all nature’s creations. The Otherworldly beautiful Elves, small mischievous Lurikeen, and sleek magical Sylvan harness the power of primal magic. The malevolent Shar have an uneasy alliance with the other races of Hibernia, and bring an undercurrent of evil to the emerald hills.Midgard is home to the snowy lands of glacier and fjord where the mighty Norse legions call home. These legions are hell bent to once and for all establish the rule of Midgard upon all the Realms. Midgard, land of lakes and wide slow rivers, is home to six of the most diverse races found in the three Realms. These races are the Norsemen (the humans who make themselves at home in these snowy wastes), short yet resilient and tenacious Dwarves, huge lumbering trolls, lithe dexterous Kobolds, shadowy, mysterious Frostalfs, and the primitive and proud Valkyn. After you have chosen a Realm it is time to pick a race. There are currently 7 races per Realm available. The following races are currently in the Dark Age of Camelot:Albion: Avalonian, Briton, Half-Ogre, Highlander, Inconnu, Saracen, and the Korazh(Minotaur).Hibernia: Celt, Elf, Firbolg, Lurikeen, Shar, Sylvan, and the Graoch(Minotaur).Midgard: Dwarf, Frostalf, Kobold, Norseman, Troll, Valkyn, and the Deifrang(Minotaur). After you have chosen the race you can pick a class among the various available and designated to said race. Currently there are 47 classes to choose from which is quite a lot. All these classes are broken down into four common RPG archetypes: Warriors, spell casters, rogues and healing classes. There are also Hybrid classes which combine skills from any two of the archetypes. The current classes that are available in Dark Age of Camelot are the following:Albion: Armsman, Cabalist, Cleric, Friar, Heretic, Infiltrator, Mauler, Mercenary, Minstrel, Necromancer, Paladin, Reaver, Scout, Sorcerer, Theurgist, and Wizard.Hibernia: Animist, Bainshee, Bard, Blademaster, Champion, Druid, Eldritch, Enchanter, Hero, Mauler, Mentalist, Nightshade, Ranger, Warden, Valewalker, and Vampiir.Midgard: Berserker, Bonedancer, Healer, Hunter, Mauler, Runemaster, Savage, Shadowblade, Shaman, Skald, Spiritmaster, Thane, Valkyrie, Warlock, and Warrior. Dark Age of Camelot is not the usual MMORPG where you level up, achieve new skills and upgrade your armor. In Dark Age of Camelot you actually have to spend time to think through your build. After some experimentation its best to pick your favorite weapon and beeline down talent trees that fully unlock that weapon’s potential. I chose to play as a Blademaster and I got multiple choices for my skills, such as skills for blunt weapons or sharp weapons. Since dual wielded blades I decided to go for the sharp weapon tree to get the optimized use for them. The interactivity of the environment in this game seems almost unheard of considering how old it is. You can actually converse with NPCs using the chat box and open doors to enter village houses! The graphics are dated but not nearly as badly as its competitors from the same era. Even the water has a mirroring effect and actually does look like water unlike many other MMORPGs.I must give readers a warning before jumping into this game. If you are not a fan of player on player combat and prefer to spend your time grinding mobs or taking on challenging dungeons, I do not recommend this game. It is absolutely vital that you join your fellow realm members to do battle for the glory (and special buffs) of your nation. To play this game and ignore this side of it would be as silly as to play League of Legends for only the computer AI battles. Thankfully the realm versus realm battles in this game are still remembered fondly to this day as one of the most polished and successfully implemented open world pvp systems ever implemented into an MMORPG. After experiencing it for myself, I can confirm the praise is well deserved. To play this old yet good looking MMORPG the recommended system requirements are really low. As long as you have a Pentium 4 processor with 2.4GHz along with a 64MB video card that supports DirectX 9.0 or later you´re good to go. If you have no idea what kind of computer you have or you´re simply not really into system specs, any computer made after the year 2001 is most likely able to run the game just fine.Even though this game is almost 10 years old I still had a lot of fun trying this game out. The lore behind the Dark Age of Camelot is quite known to everyone that has heard the bedtime stories about King Arthur and really makes this game unique. Despite its age, Mythic and EA still provide regular content updates to a player base that remains populated and active. There are special made servers for everyone to have as much fun as possible whether you like PvP or PvE. If you like old fashioned MMORPGs with more complexity than simple hack and slash games, I would recommend you to try out Dark Age of Camelot because this game has a lot to offer!

League of Legends Ascend

By Jason Harper (Hhean), OnRPG MOBA ReporterWelcome summoners, to the patch v1.0.0.126 article for League of Legends, the game that just can’t seem to keep its evils sealed in a can. This patch includes minor tweaks to champion balance, a slight alteration to the Crystal Scar, and Xerath, The Magus Ascendant.Xerath is a long ranged nuker, a floating laser howitzer who’ll zap you long before he sees the whites in your eyes. Xerath stands in stark contrast to the string of recent melee characters, attacking from as far from an enemy as physically possible. If you enjoy similar long range powerhouses like Kog’Maw, Lux, or Nidalee, he may be your perfect cup of tea.Xerath’s defining ability is his Locus of Power [W], an activated mode that increases both his range and magic penetration, but at the cost of immobilizing him. This spell steroid alone is how he competes with other nukers, as when he is not in this siege mode, his damage and range are both unimpressive. You spend most of your time as Xerath buying time for this mode to come off cooldown, and then proceeding to bombard the enemy from as far away as possible.Oh boy does he have some great tools for doing exactly that, too. His most commonly used poke is going to be Arcanopulse [Q], a low cost, low cooldown, low damage skillshot that bypasses minions. Taken as is, this ability is underwhelming, but enhanced by Locus of Power, this thing can hit people before they can even see you. This is a skill shot with a range comparable to Nidalee's Javelin Toss, but with an instant travel time and a two second cooldown. The other way of enhancing this ability is through the use of Spell Chains [E], a targeted ability that marks the target for a few seconds. If you hit an enemy with any spell at your disposal, it’ll consume the mark and stun the enemy for 1.5 seconds, in the same manner as Brand. This can make the Spell Chains + Arcanopulse combination a nice harassing tool that prevents any trades, and also acts as an escape during a gank. While most of Xerath’s time is spent grinding down his enemy’s health at range, once you think an enemy’s health has gotten low enough for them to be shelled into oblivion, it’s time to wheel out his full spell combo. The most damaging sequence in Xerath’s arsenal is to sit as far back as possible, activate Locus of Power, tap them with Mage Chains, slam them with the first shot of Arcane Barrage [R], then go to town on them with an Arcanopulse, and the remaining two shots of Arcane Barrage while they're still rendered useless by the stun triggered from Mage Chains. If they're still living, pop off another Arcanopulse for good measure. The cooldown is short enough that it is usually ready to fire again after you’re done pounding your enemies with his ultimate. It’s worth noting that he barely sacrifices any range in order to pull off this full combo, so it is always in Xerath’s best interests to be as far away from the enemy as possible, especially if you’re trying to make use of Locus of Power. Nuking the enemy long before they get in range of you, and from over half health can be an extremely satisfying stunt to pull off.The trade off here though is that in order for his main combo to do its maximum damage, you must be in Locus of Power, and therefore immobile. The reason Locus of Power is so important from a damage perspective is due to the number of hits Xerath has to do in order to rack up a decent amount of damage on an enemy. Each and every one of the spells he’s spewing forth are being mitigated by magic resistance individually, so an enemy gets far greater returns from MR against Xerath than almost any other mage in the game, because he has to perform five to six spells to do the same damage that other nukers get done in three. The reason this is a real problem is because using Locus of Power at the wrong time will get you killed. Much like every other mage in the game, Xerath has to carefully control his spacing in order to zone aggressive enemies out, rather than make use of escape abilities to simply hop out of trouble’s way. Locus of Power forfeits this control completely, allowing enemies to easily close ground and murder you until you die from it. You really can only use the ability when your normal, non-enhanced moves are already out of range. At that point, you are likely far enough away to consider immobilizing yourself. Otherwise, stay mobile and leave it well alone until you can get some distance on the enemy.Take a level in Arcanopulse at level 1. Max it out first, since it’s your only early game poke. Mage Chains or Locus of Power both are viable choices for level 2. If you think it’s safe to get inside the enemy's range, or they are a melee character, then go for Mage Chains. If you think the enemy is too dangerous to deal with, then hang back and pick up Locus of Power to snipe them from extreme range. Level 3 should let you grab the one you missed. Locus of Power should be your second to max, to both mitigate the magic resist that floats around later on in the game, and also allow you to more reliably increase you range. For items, you're looking at a fairly stock mage set up, with a few tweaks here and there. Your starting load out is going to be boots and three health potions against most opponents, but Doran's Ring or Cloth Armour with five health potions are also good items against certain mid lane match ups. Doran’s Ring is usually better when you feel you’re going to destroy your lane opponent, so you won’t need the regeneration from any potions. The cloth armour is if you happen to go against a physical damage dealer. If you're heading out in Dominion, I like to start with boots, Blasting Wand, two health potions and two mana potions. The Blasting Wand gets you more early damage than going for a Prospector's Ring, and the survivability it offers makes no difference to Xerath, who is dead when someone gets in range anyway. It also has the final perk of letting you rush something useful very quickly. His mid and late game builds need to go very heavy on ability power (which both enhances his offense and defense due to his passive), but tempered by enough cooldown reduction to get his ultimate off more often. You should have access to your full strength at nearly any time with this end game build. Deathfire Grasp and Morello’s Evil Tome are both good picks on him, mostly because they build from the Fiendish Codex, which gives him everything he needs at a cost efficient price. I’d avoid going for both though. Once you have one of them, and a few Doran’s Rings (or not if you’re in Dominion) in hand, you’re going to be heading straight for a Deathcap for mega damage. After that is usually situational picks - Zhonya’s Hourglass isn’t bad if you’re being rushed down and murdered by physical damage dealers, Rylai’s Crystal Sceptre will allow you more time before enemies get in close, and Void Staff helps against that horrible magic resistance that can cripple his damage output. As an aside, I usually don’t mention boots because they should change greatly from match to match, but you should avoid the recommended Ionian boots. He really needs that spell penetration from the sorcerer’s shoes more than the cooldown reduction at the stage in the match you’re usually buying boots, and he usually won’t wind up with a Void Staff until much later on, so that is the only magic penetration he’ll have for some time.Go with a 9/0/21 mastery set up; it won't do you wrong. His most important runes are magic penetration marks. The rest is really up to playstyle and preference. I’ve been rolling out with mana regeneration seals with ability power glyphs and quintessences, but you could easily use cooldown, magic resist, health regeneration, flat health or anything else that’s useful for a mage.I’m not fond of Xerath. I certainly warmed to him the more I played him, and he’s been a wonderful change of pace from the endless stream of melee. However, he’s also very clunky to play. The casting time on his Locus of Power feels a bit too long, and really can break up the flow of combat. I found myself cursing at the character for some time before I worked out that he almost has a minimum range to his attacks. My biggest annoyance I had while learning him though is you can’t know the range on his Locus of Power enhanced spells until you are actually in that mode, which is too late because you then can’t move to compensate for misjudged distances. What he really needs is a form of ‘ghost’ extension on his skillshots to show you how far they would travel if he was in siege mode. That one gripe I have with him would make both his learning curve that much easier, and for players to more reliably hit at his absolute maximum ranges, which is where he’s at his most effective.I do think his damage is slightly on the low side, but that’s an understandable trade off given the extremely long distances that he can not only hit from, but unleash his most damaging combo. His utility is also a bit limited, but still on par with other nukers like Brand and Malzahar. I can’t get a full read on how good this guy is though after only a few days of play, as I really struggled with him, and found screwing up his positional game to be incredibly unforgiving. I don’t think he’s bad by any margin, but he does have a very frustrating, punishingly brutal skill curve filled with many unnecessary deaths.Outside of Xerath, this patch leaves me little to talk about. All of the changes are very minor tweaks, hardly game changing in any significant fashion. The gold rate reduction on summoner’s rift means end game character aren’t quite so frustrating to deal with, which is a very nice change. They also have a few token nerfs to some of the games currently problematic characters. Not much of a change really though, and hardly enough for them to suddenly be made garbage by these minor tinkerings. To discuss some of the changes yourselves, post in the massive League of Legends thread in the free to play MMOs section. If you haven't tried League of Legends yet, you're missing out.

Activision sued by Maroon 5

Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine is suing Activision over the use of his likeness in Band Hero. According to Levine, although he had agreed to appear in the game, he believed it was to sing along to Maroon 5s She Will Be Loved. However, in the game Levine's character can also be used to sing tunes that "would not have been chosen by him for recordings or performances".As well as singing other songs, the game also allows players to change Levine's voice altogether by switching his vocals out for a femalefs.Seeking unspecified damages, Levine is suing for fraudulent inducement, breach of contract, violation of the common-law right of publicity and unfair business acts or practices. In April last year, No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani filed a similar suit against Activision. Free 3DS NES games getting multiplayer up

Nintendo has revealed that the downloadable NES games to be offered free to existing 3DS owners as part of the company's Ambassador program will include "additional features such as multiplayer simultaneous play". Nintendo set up the 3DS Ambassador program to keep existing 3DS owners happy after it announced last week that it will slash almost a third off the console's price next month - less than six months after its launch. Existing owners just need to log onto the eShop before August 12 to qualify, and from September 1 they will be able to download 10 NES games and 10 GBA games for free. Nintendo has clarified what it meant in the original press when it said that 'updated' versions would be released later in the year that Ambassadors can download at no extra cost. First up, it's not 3D visuals. "These will be 2D games. They are not 3D Classics," said Nintendo, before going on to reveal: "When the NES games become available to the general public later this year, they will include additional features such as multiplayer simultaneous play. Ambassadors will then be able to download those updated version at no cost."Nintendo refused to comment further on how long the downloads would be available for, or what the full list of titles will be, but with games like Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Jr., Balloon Fight, Ice Climber and The Legend of Zelda on NES, and Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Metroid Fusion, WarioWare, Inc.: Minigame Mania and Mario vs. Donkey Kong on GBA confirmed, you'll want to get on it quick.

Dead Island 'Bloodbath Arena' DLC out thi

Deep Silver has confirmed that the first download pack for Dead Island will be released in late September. The DLC, titled 'Bloodbath Arena', lets players fight endless waves of zombies in four deadly new areas. It also contains a new gun, the 'Brain Wave Bomb', which sounds delicious. Actions performed in this mode will give you XP that can be carried over to your main campaign, which makes it the perfect place to grind up your stats should you need some extra help. If you got the Special Edition version of the game you'll get the DLC free. No price has been given for everyone else. Developer Techland has apologised to fans today, once again, after a gamer dug around in Dead Island's hidden data and found a line of code that names a 'feminist wh*re' skill for the female character Purna. This is the second time in one week the folks behind Dead Island have found themselves apologising on behalf of the zombie shooter, after early purchasers through Steam discovered they were accidentally served a disastrously buggy development version of the game. Maybe this will become a weekly thing like the PS Store updates.'This week's Dead Island apologies: Animal cruelty and hooker murder'. Mike Jackson

Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling plays Batt

Infinity Ward public face / creative strategist Robert Bowling has already admitted plans to purchase Battlefield 3 later this year, and a hands-on session with the game's multiplayer at Gamescom last week appears to have done nothing to dampen his enthusiasm for the Modern Warfare 3 rival. "GamesCom completed," he wrote on Twitter. "Spent an hour playing @Battlefield 3 multiplayer with friends from DICE, I loved it!"The EA-published FPS will be arriving worldwide in October, a fortnight before Activision's MW3 hits shelves. Bowling said last month that although both games' communities were "baiting" each other, there is "definitely room" for the duo of shooters on the market. The respect shared between developers Infinity Ward and DICE - the picture (via Battlefieldo) shows Bowling with BF3 community manager Daniel Matros - isn't uncommon, but it's refreshing to see given the way top executives at their respective parent companies, Activision and particularly EA, have been behaving recently.Back in June, EA CEO John Riccitiello said in no uncertain terms that he wanted to see Call of Duty "rot from the core". Last week, this led Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg to call for a stop to the mudslinging. EA quickly responded with more trash talk, goading Hirshberg by welcoming him to "the big leagues" and predicting the death of Call of Duty. Tom Ivan

Halo 4 video 343 talks pressures of expe

343 Industries has released another two videos for Halo 4 following the Halo Fest panel this weekend. The first is a developer diary in which the game's executive producer, who's actually called Kiki Wolfkill, says "one of the most exciting parts of Halo 4 is really this team that we've brought together". Confident of Halo 4's future despite the departure of series creators Bungie, Wolfkill adds: "It's a team that brings a lot of talent and a lot of past accomplishments and I think we all came together and we were so excited about things that we set out do, it's been a challenge to not be able to talk about it."The other is a quick snippet of footage of the dev team taking to the great outdoors to record explosions - presumably for weapon fire. These join the Halo 4 video we posted yesterday which offered a look at some of the concept art and a preview of the soundtrack tone 343 has cooked up for the game so far.343 also revealed last weekend that Halo 4 is the first episode of the 'Reclaimer Trilogy'. Diablo III Countdown Skillsets

By Remko Molenaar (Proxzor), OnRPG Writer Recently the Diablo 3 Beta has gone live! Unfortunately Blizzard forgot to invite me but thankfully a lot of people, including ColbyCheeze, are streaming the game and revealing a lot of content to get us even more hyped for the launch. Also the skills on the official Diablo 3 website got released and in this article I will be showing you a quick preview of a few spells that Diablo 3 currently revealed. I have already talked about the classes in the first article but now we have some specifics to describe exactly how these classes operate on the battlefield. Fan of Knives: Some of you might know the skill Fan of Knives in World of Warcraft. In Diablo 3 the skills has the same kind of effect; it is an area of effect spell in which you basically throw knives around you to hit the surrounding monsters. While the description is the same, the actual animation is far more beautiful in Diablo 3.Molten Arrow: This spell might be one of the most useful spells the Demon Hunter possesses; basically you shoot a piercing arrow in the current way that you are aiming. It hits targets for a percentage of your weapon damage and it leaves a trail of fire, dealing Fire damage per second to all enemies who stand in it. This spell will surely have some epic combinations with the rune system.Grenade: The Grenade spell lets you throw three grenades in the current direction you’re facing that explode and deal Fire damage to the surrounding monsters.Bola: With this spell you shoot out an explosive Bola that wraps itself around its target. After a few seconds the Bola will explode and deal extra damage to the target and an additional amount of damage to nearby targets.Entangling Shot: The Entangling Shot is the Demon Hunter’s stun skill. With this shot you shoot off an arrow which deals damage and entangles the monster for an x amount of seconds. Crippling Wave: The Monk uses large sweeping attacks that daze the target; on the first hit the target is dazed and on the second and third hit it refreshes the duration of the daze effect.Impenetrable Defense: The Monk creates a shield that protects him from any incoming damage. Enter monks as an off-tank class!Exploding Palm: With Exploding Palm the Monk does a series of lethal strikes to the targets nerve clusters, setting up a deadly chain reaction within the target. It also causes the target to bleed for an x amount of second. If the target dies while bleeding it explodes, which deals damage to surrounding enemies.Seven-Sided Strike: Unleashes a fury of attacks, striking multiple enemies nearby.Way of the Hundred Fists: The Monk fires a series of punching strikes to the targets in front of the Monk. Let’s hope this one stays true to the name ‘hundred.’ I have high hopes for some spectacular rune effects connecting to this skill. Projecting waves of lightning with each strike maybe?Disintegrate: Fires off a laser beam that will hit every target in its line of fire. It’s always important to have situational skill shots to keep things exciting for the wizard.Electrocute: Fires off an electric beam that hits multiple nearby targets dealing x amount of damage, as well as stunning and slowing the target. Electrocute can jump to 2 other targets dealing 30% less damage with each jump.Teleport: The standard go-to defensive skill for a mage. Just make sure you teleport out of the fray and not into it.Magic Missile: This skill lets you fire off a fast single magic missile at a target, dealing x amount of arcane damage.Slow Time: The Slow Time spell creates a purple bubble of protection around the Wizard. Basically what it does is create a forcefield around the wizard that not only slows the movement of enemies who enter it, but even slows projectile attacks launched from distant enemies.Cleave: This skill lets you swing your weapon in a wide arc to deal damage to nearby targets. It also does 60% of weapon damage to other nearby enemies that are caught in the extended swing.Ground Stomp: Ground Stomp makes you stomp the earth beneath you to stun and do 30% of damage to the surrounding targets. It’s an easy clean-up job from there.Leap: With Leap you will leap into the air dealing 40% of damage to all enemies within 8 yards of your destination. This skill might be the most fun opening skill to do because you surprise your targets when you leap forward. I expect this to be widely popular in PvP.Seismic Slam: This Slam might be the biggest Area of Effect spell that the Barbarian possesses; the barbarian slams the ground to cause a wave of destruction that deals 215 weapon damage and knockbacks targets in a 45yard arc around the epicenter.Whirlwind: Every Warcraft fan and Diablo fan is probably familiar with the Whirlwind. We saw the blade master in Warcraft 3 being specialized in this skill. Whirlwind lets the character rotate in circles to deliver multiple attacks to every target that is currently walking in its path.Firebomb: Firebomb is very similar to the Grenade skill that is used by the Demon Hunter. Instead of throwing grenades you throw one bomb at your enemy that will explode on impact and deal fire damage. As such timing is vital to landing this attack.Horrify: This powerful curse frightens the nearby enemies into running away for a few seconds. The radius emanates from the Witch Doctor, not from the spot targeted when cast, so it only works on enemies who are very nearby.Locust Swarm: Locust Swarm might be the most fun spell for the Witch Doctor to have. You send off a cloud of locusts that swarm over nearby enemies eating their flesh from their bones. The Locust Swarm will chain between nearby enemies which might set off a really fun situation where you can clear the room with only one simple spell. I’m curious how effective it is against living skeletons though.Mass Confusion: With Mass Confusion you will confuse your targets into turning against their allies temporarily. The duration is currently set at 8 seconds.Soul Harvest: With Soul Harvest you can feed on the life force of up to 5 nearby enemies within 15 yards. You will gain 126 attack for each affected enemy which will last for 30 seconds. After seeing all the skills of the current classes I am thinking about trying out a Demon Hunter at the release of Diablo 3. I have always liked the archer class above any other class in any MMORPG that I have played. It’s refreshing to finally see an archer breaking from the typical stereotype to encompass a bit more utility. The Wizard also looks rather interesting but I can’t help shake the feeling that it’s meant to play more of a supporting role in this game. Still, in the hands of an expert, wizards will be able to dish out immense aoe damage while remaining quite mobile. The current amount of damage an attack or spell deals can be changed considering Diablo 3 is still in early beta, but after seeing all the video’s on the Diablo 3 site you can get a really good view of what to expect of the currently announced classes.
