Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling plays Batt

Infinity Ward public face / creative strategist Robert Bowling has already admitted plans to purchase Battlefield 3 later this year, and a hands-on session with the game's multiplayer at Gamescom last week appears to have done nothing to dampen his enthusiasm for the Modern Warfare 3 rival. "GamesCom completed," he wrote on Twitter. "Spent an hour playing @Battlefield 3 multiplayer with friends from DICE, I loved it!"The EA-published FPS will be arriving worldwide in October, a fortnight before Activision's MW3 hits shelves. Bowling said last month that although both games' communities were "baiting" each other, there is "definitely room" for the duo of shooters on the market. The respect shared between developers Infinity Ward and DICE - the picture (via Battlefieldo) shows Bowling with BF3 community manager Daniel Matros - isn't uncommon, but it's refreshing to see given the way top executives at their respective parent companies, Activision and particularly EA, have been behaving recently.Back in June, EA CEO John Riccitiello said in no uncertain terms that he wanted to see Call of Duty "rot from the core". Last week, this led Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg to call for a stop to the mudslinging. EA quickly responded with more trash talk, goading Hirshberg by welcoming him to "the big leagues" and predicting the death of Call of Duty. Tom Ivan

Report Sony Knew the PSN Leak Was Huge,

According to a report from Kyodo News, citing official Japanese government documentation, Sony Computer Entertainment knowingly delayed telling the public about the extent of an attack on its PlayStation Network so as not to "bewilder" its customers. The report, submitted to the Japanese government and obtained under a freedom of information request, says that SCE was able to confirm internally on April 25 (American time) that a "fairly large amount of data" had been exposed to hackers. A press release issued the next day, however, only stated that Sony could not "rule out the possibility" that personal information had been compromised. It's also claimed that PlayStation boss Kaz Hirai gave incorrect information in a statement issued on May 1, in which he said Sony didn't learn about the extent of the attack until April 26 (American time), a full day later than the company confirmed matters internally. The official document also says that Sony delayed informing the public of the extent of the breach so as not to "bewilder" its customers, a spokesperson saying "We hadn't figured out (at that time) what kind of data had been leaked. If only passwords and IDs (were breached), they cannot be considered personal information, and so we didn't want to bewilder our customers."While being out by a day seems minor, that discrepancy combined with the gap between what Sony knew internally and what it told people publicly still raises the possibility - and this is why the Japanese government is looking into this - that, as Kyodo News puts it, Sony "deliberately attempted to downplay the seriousness of the situation by not fully disclosing information".Sony knew data breach was massive but withheld full disclosure [Kyodo news, subscription required]

Nintendo sued over Wii Remote technology

Nintendo has been sued by technology firm ThinkOptic for allegedly knowingly infringing on one of its patents. The patent in question manages to make the Wii Remote sound like the dullest object in the world. It describes "electronic equipment for handheld vision based absolute pointing system". ThinkOptic claims Nintendo knew (or should have known) ahead of time that it would be infringing on the patent with the release of the Wii.Two other patents are also mentioned in the case, one describing a "Handheld Device for Handheld Vision Based Absolute Pointing System" and another outlining a "Handheld Vision Based Absolute Pointing System".With the above in mind, ThinkOptic has claimed that Wii U will also infringe on its patents. It's not been a good morning for Nintendo, particularly if rumours of troubled Wii U development prove to be true. Video Watch real-life Call of Duty map g

As you might've noticed by the abundance of army men holding guns on the site this weekend, Activision held a rather large Modern Warfare-themed event last week called Call of Duty XP.As part of the treasure trove of attractions at the event, the publisher gave fans - and video game writers - the opportunity to take on a real-life version of Modern Warfare 2 Spec-Ops mission The Pit.In the video below, you can watch a man Veteran it. While the paintball gun he uses can't be found in-game, he clearly smashes the 35 second challenge time required to earn three stars. Watch in HD No comments yet, be the first! In case you missed the Call of Duty XP madness, stick your eyes on the first official Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer details, plus our Modern Warfare 3 hands-on from Los Angeles. For the word-shy, we've also posted video interviews on Call of Duty Elite and Modern Warfare 3 itself. Andy Robinson

Crimecraft Expansion Interview

Players also gain PvP Rank for each map for simpler ranking of a player’s killing ability.。

These are all in addition to events we run on our forums for screenshots, scavenger hunts and more.。

My favorite PvP game mode is probably Turf War. It’s a very tactical mode with great potential for the back and forth momentum swings that I love. For PvE, I really enjoy Headhunt for the frantic action and the solid rewards. It’s possible to rack up a lot of loot containers in Headhunt, plus fighting all the way to the boss can be extremely satisfying, especially when you’re working as a team with other players.。

 。

Next we run daily events where a GM sets up a match and offers the winners prizes, usually in-game cash and rare mats. These events are often something fun like “Kill the GM,” a Riot match where whoever kills the GM the most times wins the prize.。

 。

We’ve also got your standard Shootout and Riot (team deathmatch and every man for himself) modes; a capture the flag mode called Snatch n Grab; and Capture the Zone (a king of the hill mode).。

Ha, that one’s easy! Everyone who knows me knows I live and die by my LMG. I’ve been using it since Beta. Originally I was an Oslo loyalist, but since we brought the Raskolnikov into the game, that’s what I’ve been using. I’ve got a profile set up now with a sniper rifle for some of the bigger maps, but I usually end up getting frustrated and going back to my LMG anyway!。

The Black Market is a great way to pimp out your character, try out different combat builds, and experience additional gameplay content. However, no unbalancing items will ever be offered for purchase through the Black Market… the best items will always be earned through gameplay. While a players gear certainly helps sway the tide of a match, our game is a shooter at its core, so it will ultimately come down to the skill of the player.。

 。

 。

Our game uses a hybrid Free2Play model, which includes both expanded memberships and a microtransaction cash shop. We currently offer three membership tiers:  Normal, Deluxe, and Premium. The Deluxe and Premium membership tiers offer increased experience, cash, and loot rates. These memberships also received gold bars (our cash currency) each month and receive full access to the Bleedout Campaign.。

We’re heavy believers in events and try to have them as often as possible and at varied times throughout the day.。

The most popular game types to date have been Robbery and Turf War. In Robbery, two teams battle to steal money from the opposing teams safe. In Turf War, each team fights to control five strategic points on the map.。

Each of the episodes focus on a different NPC and themes, which offer different perspectives on the world scenario and different bits of insight into what led to this ultimate Age of Ruin.  It felt appropriate to get different popular comic artists to portray those different perspectives, based on their individual unique visual styles, to really showcase the broad variety of characters and agendas.   Each artist brought their A-game to the table, and really nailed the different moods and themes assigned to them:  Ben Templesmith’s chapter is suitably creepy, Glenn Fabry’s chapter captures the violent LOCK STOCK vibe, Howard Chaykin’s chapter really highlights the sultry smarm of local politics, etc.。

 。

We’ve got a total of 11 game modes (three PvE and 8 PvP) and 17 maps. There’s a lot of variety built in there, and when you add in custom game options like Vampire Mode and Friendly Fire, you can see that we have a big buffet of match choices.。

New maps include, Belly Street, a smaller, close quarter combat arena,  Deckard Harbor, a dense maze of walkways in the port district, Municpal Bank, a heavily guarded financial fortress for the ultimate PvP robbery, and Maxym Alley, a small, intense map with few places to hide.。

The Bleedout Campaign delivers 10 weeks of episodic content to Players and tells the story of the Bleedout. Each episode delivers about 2.5 hours of PvE content (Players can also play cooperatively). Comicbook style cinematics open and close each episode which is illustrated by an all-star lineup of comic artists including, Tim Bradstreet, Ben Templesmith, Howard Chaykin, Sanford Green and Nathan Fox amongst others.。

 。

 。

 。

The addition is Assault, Capture, Defend. This game mode randomly places a Core around the map that two teams fight over in three distinct phases. The opening phase has the two teams battling for position until the Core unlocks. Once unlocked, the teams must capture the Core by standing next to it and keeping opponents away from it. Once one team captures it, the other team must release it by standing next to it and clearing out their competition. Once released, the Core is moved to another random spot on the map and the process begins again.。

 。

 。

On the “play the match” UI the player won’t see the list of active servers anymore. They will be able just to select their preferences and press the “Fight” button. The system will handle everything else and join the player into the appropriate instance.。

The reception to both the memberships and cash shop has been great, users can more easily progress to our endgame if they wish and the cash shop allows us to provide some really cool cosmetic clothing for our users.。

Out of this chaos emerged  Sunrise City as an independent city state among the wastelands. Rebuilt by a tenuous agreement between six of the city’s biggest criminal organizations, Sunrise City maintains a façade of normalcy through its puppet government, the Municipality.  This political system guards the citizens from the numerous outside threats that wish to destroy everything Sunrise City is, consisting of Reunification US Military Squadrons to money hungry mercenaries controlled by the remnants of society’s major corporate powers.。

 。

 。

Our Players should be excited about this patch because they designed it. This is the Player Request patch and while we didn't deliver everything we wanted to, we delivered an enormous amount of new content and have hopefully put a smile on our players’ faces. Our dev team is of modest size, they are extremely talented and passionate about the product. They work their butts off and truly care about the Player experience. This team actually loses sleep at night worrying about player issues and negative forum posts. They were dedicated to delivering what our players wanted.。

 。

 。

 。

We will also be introducing an ELO system that will attempt to match players against others of equal skill level. If the wait is too long, this system will slowly broaden the ELO rankings allowed to be paired up to begin the match. This ELO rank will increase or decrease after the match in proportion to the ELO rank of those you played with and against as well as the outcome of the match.。

 。

As with every patch and major release, our community is instrumental in helping drive development, and we’ve added multitudes of Player requests, such as more character customization options, refinements to character professions and skills, new playmodes, new weapon modification kits, new AUG’s, and much more.。

I recently had to chat with Crimecraft developer Vogster Entertainment about its newest Bleedout expansion, and how it’s all been going so far. The episodic releases of content have meant a surge of new and returning players alike, so OnRPG turns its spotlight towards the current state of the game, and July’s major update.。

 。

 。

In 2012, a catastrophic event known as “The Bleedout” occurred.  The world’s oil wells suddenly and mysteriously ran dry.  In less than a year, society had devolved 200 years as power plants ceased to function, government power waned, modern technology failed, and lawless gunmen seized power.。

 。

Our clan system revolves around gangs, and membership in a gang offers a lot of privileges unlike anything you’ve seen in a typical shooter. First of all you get crafting bonuses since the gang can have a “Crafting Specialty” with regular production of needed ingredients. Next, you have Gang Clubs, where gang leaders can create a nightclub with unique vendors and the gang gets a cut of the action. We also have a highly structured Gang Wars system where gangs can challenge each other for bragging rights and cold (in-game) cash.。

The expanded PvE mode brings Safeguard to our Old Sunrise City Hall map, but with a new twist. Instead of one defense core, the players must defend three cores against waves of AI enemies. It’s an intense change of pace for one of our most popular game modes!。

 。

 。

The New Age of Ruin is a complete overhaul of the art direction of our three major community areas (Downtown, Oceanside and Midtown). This is a radical transformation to provide the perfect ambiance to the Bleedout Campaign -- an artistic style that represents a gritty, near future, urban setting.。

In addition to XP and money, players earn Reputation, Rank and Power Points based on their performance. Players are ranked in game by a number of leaderboards that are based on a player’s in-game skill and activities.。

 。

 。

 。

 。

 。

The Reputation system gives the Players an overall cumulative stat that measures their progress. Player's earn points for PvP Combat, wealth, character progress, leadership (Gangs), special achievements and time in game. Players can monitor how well they are doing by viewing the Reputation Leaderboards.。

 。

Well first I can say we are definitely addressing this issue.  I'll lay out the general direction we are headed - our new match-making system will go through a Beta process and our community will help us fine tune it.。

 。

 。

 。

 。

 。

 。

 。

My name is Michael Mendheim and I'm Executive Producer of CC: Bleedout. Some past games I've produced / directed include, Robocalypse, BattleTanx, Army Men, Def Jam and Mutant League Football.。

 。

For PvE, we have Stockpile, a solo game mode where users battle bots and bosses to collect loot; Safeguard, a coop mode where users protect a “Defense Core” from wave after wave of AI foes; and Headhunt, a coop mode where users fight through  an intense AI defense to kill the enemy boss.。

Our players take part in a large number of events on a daily basis. We have daily and weekly tournaments for our competitive players. These are highly structured ladder tourneys that give out some of the best rewards in the game.。

Answered by Executive Producer Michael Mendheim。

 。

One of our Facebook fans said it best when she wrote, “New patch is THA BOMB, son!” This update was based on feedback from our community and that’s been our driving mantra for a long time here at Vogster Entertainment. And it’s not about to stop. We’re already working on our next expansion!。

 。

 。

Reputation is a measure of a player’s commitment to the game, and takes into account all game activities including match play, crafting, job, missions, tournaments, you name it. The players at the top of the Reputation Leaderboard are marked on your lobby minimap by their rank.。

 。

 。

 。

 。

The team is now focused on our major expansion release, which is targeted for this fall. This expansion is going to be bigger than Bleedout and it's going to rock the PC MMORPG Free to Play gaming world. We are just starting to actively involve our community in the design. The team is super-pumped and we can't wait to start talking about it...but not just yet.。

Finally, each player has a power point rating that covers their equipment, level and their Kill/Death ratio.。

Casting the voices for the game was also something we considered carefully, approaching some of the best voices in animation.  David Lodge, Yuri Lowenthal, Tom and Dorothy Fahn, and several other talented actors all brought their years of voiceover experience to the table to bring the many NPCs to life.  By giving these characters true, recorded voices, the world itself becomes that much richer and more engaging, with each NPC becoming that much more memorable and unique.。

 。

 。

For this update, we added one new PvP game mode and expanded a PvE game mode.。

The player should get more rewards (experience and cash) if they accept more game types and locations and this should be transparent for the players. By doing this we will push most of the players to select the “Quick Play” option and this gives us the possibility to create the teams for the games much faster so the players won’t wait for a next match for too long.。

 。

 。

 。

 。

 。

 。

 。

 。

With the release of Bleedout we introduced a wealth of new content and changes to the game. Here's a quick overview:

Wii U in 'development hell', claims tipst

Nintendo is facing "development hell" with the Wii U, according to an alleged insider, and Wii U controllers supplied to developers "still don't work properly." The tipster - talking to previously reliable Nintendo leak site 01.net - has listed a number of hiccups and hurdles supposedly causing problems for Nintendo's on-going development of Wii U, including claims the final hardware has been "rushed through the door"."According to our source, it seems that the final architecture has been rushed through the door, with undesirable consequences," the 01 report reads. Those consequences allegedly include "inadequate" streaming and wireless functionality integral to the Wii U's innovative design, the source continues, and speculation that the console's main chip set "may be a tad too cheap.""So far, the wireless functions simply do not work at all," it continues, claiming that as a result, developers are working with a tethered controller which apparently "still does not work properly"."Many developers are feeling lost, their progress impeded by a distinct lack of visibility, their working hours by the quasi-paced daily software updates," it's said.01.net concludes that developers are quietly expecting a June 2012 release but that Nintendo engineers are struggling to make the architecture work in time.Of course, this is all just rumour for now but it comes from the same source that for one tipped a second 3DS circle pad, something that has since been confirmed.Should we be worried, readers? Dishonored Announced Bethesda’s New Fi

DishonoredNews (4)Previews (1)ReviewVideosScreenshots (7)Cheats and WalkthroughsDishonoredNews (4)Previews (1)ReviewVideosScreenshots (7)Cheats and WalkthroughsDishonoredNews (4)Previews (1)ReviewVideosScreenshots (7)Cheats and Walkthroughs Bethesda today announced that it will publish Dishonored, a first-person action game, in development at Arkane Studios. Dishonored will be released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, and PCs in 2012.The game is being created by Raphael Colantonio, lead designer on Arx Fatalis, and Harvey Smith, lead designer on Deus Ex, so it’s got a bit of a pedigree. We'll get full details when the next issue of Game Informer hits the newsstands in Early July, but until then, there's a preview of the issue's cover above and here's a brief description of the game:"Dishonored is the antithesis of a edge-of-your-seat roller-coaster ride. It's a game about assassination where you don't have to kill anyone. It's a game about infiltration where you can set up traps and slaughter the entire garrison of an aristocrat's mansion rather than sneak in. It's a game about brutal violence where you can slip in and out of a fortified barracks with nobody ever knowing you were there. It's a game about morality and player choice where the world you create is based on your actions, not navigating conversation trees."Given the resumes of the creators of this game, the involvement of Bethesda, and that description, I don't think it's premature to proclaim this the greatest video game of all time.Source: Game InformerAll of the best people are following Stephen Johnson's twitter feed. Picaroon - The Age of Online Empires

 。

 。

 。

 。

Developing your settlement is the first order of business. Constructing farms, mines and other buildings helps increase the number of resources available in your pool. Many are required to progress to the next level of the tiered construction tree, with the most advanced buildings at the top. These bring a whole host of new and powerful building options, unit types and game enhancements. A text-based tutorial guides you through the majority of Picaroon’s features, helping you get well acquainted with the game.。

Graphics - 3
Controls - 3
Features - 4
Customization - 4
Community - 3。

Once you’re happy with the progression of your settlement, it’s time to build defences and forge an army. Naval warfare is an extremely important part of Picaroon, and it’s wise to begin building ships and forming fleets as soon possible as new players are only protected from attacks for the first 72 hours. Discovering and colonizing new settlements is necessary for growth, and whilst you start off small it won’t be long until you have control over a number of islands. Having ample protection across the board isn’t easy so it’s wise to build the strongest defences on your most valuable islands. There are a good number of different ships available. Bombers, scouts, submarines – there’s a vessel for every occasion, each have their own advantages and disadvantages. Forming powerful and varied fleets to work in any given situation is a challenge.。

 。

 。

By Neil Kewn (Murxidon) – OnRPG Journalist。

 。

 。

 。

A grid overlay displays your settlements and the location of your units. With a 40x40 grid to contend with, even a simple game of Picaroon is a vast one. Players are always on the lookout for new settlements to colonize, and they are usually more than willing to take yours if it is not defended. This is where Alliances come in. Players can form their own guilds and recruit other players in an attempt to garner a foothold on a certain area. Strength is certainly in numbers when it comes to conquering other player’s settlements and the inevitable task of defending your own.。

Questing rewards you with “specials” and other goodies. A dedicated questing panel lists available tasks and their requirements. The majority of them are basic (building a mill, attacking a pirate ship, etc.) and act as a helpful guide in growing your settlements whilst rewarding you with helpful items. The use of cards known as “specials” adds another strategic element. These one-shot deals can profoundly affect anything from construction times, to ship accuracy, to population growth.  Specials are awarded through questing and can also be bought in special packs from the in-game store.。

Picaroon isn’t your average strategy game. Half real time strategy, half MMO – it’s an online game that strives to be different in a space populated by cookie cutter titles. Mixing traditional base building and resource gathering with competitive multiplayer, quests and trade, Picaroon is a feature packed merger of all your favourite RTS mechanics.  Sounds great in premise, but is Picaroon a complete package of powerful playing styles or a convoluted concoction that should be avoided?。

 。

Nevertheless, Picaroon succeeds in standing out amongst the pack. It may lack polish, but the fundamentals are there and its strong, addictive gameplay should evolve over time and keep those already playing interested. An enjoyable game in need of some slight refinement, Picaroon is a title that will appeal to both casual and non-casual real time strategy fans. Climb aboard.。

 。

Unfortunately not everything is as polished as the engine room of my Heavy Bombship. The user interface is poor. Cluttered, ugly menu screens and dreadful navigation mechanics take the shine off the game. Picaroon falls short in the graphics department too. Settlements consist of several huts and buildings, with little or no activity from the population you strive to appease. Textures are bland and of low quality, with water effects sadly lacking. Not such a surprise considering the small download, but the overall presentation of the game becomes an eyesore after a while.。

Picaroon’s small download makes me wonder why it wasn’t a browser-based game in the first place. Playing online games at work is all the rage these days, and the game’s management and base-building aspect would be well suited to the casual audience.  There are three different game types to choose from. The first is a classic setup with a fixed time limit and frantic end-game, the second is a quick skirmish that lasts just a few hours and the final mode offers an endless, persistent game for die hard strategists. Picaroon isn’t a casual affair though, there’s depth and strategy that will appeal to the most hardcore of players, but it’s welcoming to those who don’t have a lot of spare time to watch their empire rise.。

A small cash shop is used to fund the game. Using a currency known as “Doubloons”, players can purchase the aforementioned premium Specials Packs. Packs range from fleet transportation speed buffs to stat increases to help protect your settlement if you are away for the weekend. It isn’t a necessity to indulge in such luxury but there is a clear advantage to those who do. Endgame is where the most action is. Those who have donated resources to the Home Nation across the course of a game are rewarded with the most hi-tech, advanced equipment and units available. Anything from advanced submarines to nuclear weapons, it’s worth gifting any remaining resources for the chance to wheel out the big guns in the final days of play, especially if you’re not interested in the Picaroon store.。

 。

A self-proclaimed MMORTS, fans of the heralded Age of Empires series, turn-based juggernaut Civilization or the underappreciated Anno 1404 will all find something to like in Picaroon. You are given a small island to build, maintain and control with objectives to complete along the way. Coming off the back of the social video game boom brought on by Facebook, those who have fallen under its spell will find much familiarity in Picaroon.

Ubisoft waiving Driver online pass fee

Ubisoft is currently not enforcing the previously announced online pass fee for Driver: San Francisco. Beginning with Driver, copies of the publisher's "popular core games" were supposed to ship with a valid one-time code required to access online multiplayer , while second-hand buyers wanting to get in on the action would have to pay 800 MS Points (about £6.85) on Xbox 360 and £7.99/$9.99 on PS3.However, incorrectly printed Uplay Passport codes in some copies of the game have forced Ubisoft to rethink its strategy, temporarily at least.Ubisoft said today: "When you begin DRIVER: San Francisco, you are prompted with the Uplay Passport menu. The menu has 4 options: "Purchase Uplay PASSPORT," "Activate my Uplay PASSPORT," "Start my 2-Day Free Trial," or "Remind Me Later"."There are two ways to access these online features: 1. Select Start My 2-Day Free Trial, which will not expire, OR 2. Select Purchase Uplay Passport, which will be provided at no charge. Either option will unlock the 11 multiplayer modes and the Film Director feature on console titles with Uplay Passport."Ubisoft has yet to comment on how long the Uplay Passport will be free for. PS Vita RAM cut doesn't worry us - Sony s

A Sony studio partner appears to have confirmed reports that PlayStation Vita's RAM was cut by Sony in order to make the device's price more competitive. However, Novarama boss Dani S醤chez-Crespo doesn't believe that the cutback will affect development on the system too much - and could even be "good for developers".French site 01.net - which has an uncanny knack for leaking accurate Sony information - reported in May that the system's on-board RAM and VRAM had apparently been cut in half to 256MB and 128MB respectively. In response, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida later suggested that people should "not believe everything you read on the Internet".Now, speaking to respected industry publication Develop, S醤chez-Crespo said that the system would still "have a whole lot of headroom in terms of GPU power, CPU power and indeed RAM".Asked if the alleged cut would affect Novarama's game creation, S醤chez-Crespo said: "No, that won't affect us. It's actually good for developers to work under constraint. Generally for Vita, we still have a whole lot of headroom in terms of GPU power, CPU power and indeed RAM".He added: "Remember the PSP had 32 MG of RAM, we have about ten times that now."If talk of the Vita downgrade cut is accurate, it would carry less RAM than Apple's iPhone 4 - which reportedly holds a whopping 512MB, double the on-board memory of even the iPad.Speaking to CVG, Epic Games this month revealed that the level of RAM was their No.1 concern when it came to next-gen consoles."I think our biggest request from any new console will always be more memory - more than anything else," said European boss Mike Gamble.

Little King's Story Vita gets first scree

Marvelous has released the first screenshots of its Little King's Story sequel. Yesterday Famitsu revealed the game, which it says is called 'The King, The Demon King and the Seven Princesses: New King Story' in Japan, and will be ditching the Nintendo Wii in favour of Sony's upcoming handheld.According to the few details Famitsu had on offer the sequel will have a swanky new visual style and a 'love' dynamic. From the looks of these screens the art-style isn't a huge departure from the first game, although the color palette is noticeably less vibrant. As well as ditching the Wii Marvelous has also parted ways with Rising Star Games, which published Little King's Story. The sequel will be published by Konami. Tamoor Hussain

Combat Arms Review

By Kei Beneza (Dividelife), Onrpg writer And yet again, another first-person-shooter (FPS) emerges from the scene. Combat Arms is a “free to play” online FPS game that lets players battle it out using modernized weaponry. I wont deny the fact that FPS games are currently the center of the gaming industry. Whether it's on consoles, portable gadgets or the PC, FPSes have become quite an attraction. The way it exercises its network capabilities proves how well these type of games function in this new meta of gaming. Combat Arms shares the same concept of these FPS games. It's always fun to team up with others while shooting your opponents to kingdom come. However, one mustn't judge a game simply by its genre. Combat Arms also has a few tricks up its sleeve, so let's check it out and see how well this game is compared to its counterparts. The first thing you'll probably notice is the game's graphic capabilities. This models are rendered fantastically, which is quite rare for a free to play game. The game seems to be up to date when it comes to visuals. Kind of reminds me of Call of Duty 4 or World at War. When it comes to graphics, this game is a lot better than most MMOs today. The colors are quite bright and the frame rate is pretty enthralling. If your PC can handle the system requirements then I'm sure you're in for a ride. The controls are pretty much the same as the typical FPS control scheme, so you don't really have to get used to it unless you're new with this type of genre. The interface is quite similar to the most up to date shooters. Basically, you'll see your lifebar on the bottom left portion of your screen along with your ammo count on the bottom right. What's really satisfying about this game is how the kill count pops up whenever you enter a “killing spree”. The grungy text really helps you feel the glory of having to kill multiple targets. In fact, that definitely beats a small message that says “yourname killed----> hisname” by a mile. Nothing is more rewarding than a big fat message that signifies your triumph, and the grungy text alone pretty much delivers that. Combat arms lets players customize their guns to enhance their performance in the field. Modifying your artillery by adding a scope for example, can greatly optimize your accuracy. You can even add suppressors and extra magazine clips to help you last longer in the battlefield. The game has a wide variety of customizable guns, which is of course one of the biggest factors of First Person Shooters. You would probably mistake this game for a tactical shooter after seeing what its armory holds. Heartbeat detectors for example, are used to locate your enemies in the field. The game also caters a bunch of sneaky traps like mines and marking grenades to help you suppress the opposing team. Each gun has their own optimized way of usage so do pick what further compliments your playstyle. Other than the great visuals, what pulls this game together is the brilliant sound effects. Hearing your gear wiggle as you walk around the area kind of gives you the heavily geared feeling. It almost feels like the character is already a real life extension of your body. Don't tell me that we'll be doing deathmatches till the game dies.
Of course not! Combat arms also has a nice set of missions to help remove the repetitive gameplay. There's the Spy hunt scenario which is more like a Metal Gear type mission. In this mode you'll be playing alongside a designated team who will then be on a mission to find three sources of intel. After getting the information you need, you will then become a turncoat super spy whose mission is to reach the designated area before your enemies (namely the entire squad and your now X-teamnmates) get a hold of you. This mode is quite fun especially if you're into spy flicks. The game also has a couple of old scenarios like: Capture the Flag, Team Deathmatch, Individual Deathmatch, and of course the nostalgic Plant the Bomb Scenario. If you think that this is as silly as the game could get then you're dead wrong. The Snowball fight mode lets players mash each other with snowballs rather than bullets. Silly I know, but it's quite hilarious really. Each kill you make will lessen the opposing team's respawn point. Once a team's respawn point reaches zero, that team will no longer be able to spawn members making the other team the victors. Yeah this game IS pretty good, and the words Free to Play makes it a whole lot better. I'm telling ya, Free to Play is music to my ears. Tired of de_dust? Combat Arms has a good lineup of maps ready for your to wreak havoc on. Each map looks a lot different from the others; meaning you wont have to grouch over getting to play in the same repetitive areas over and over again. There's no doubt that games like these are bound to have a lot of players. This one however, is probably the next gen of free to play shooters. Excellent graphics, crazy sound effects, high replay value, this game is anything but bad. After seeing this game up close, I don't think I'll be deleting it from my system any time soon. The maps are quite exquisite. I don't think I'll even be close to getting tired of this game. Competing with other people in the battlefield is quite addictive and this game greatly emphasizes that war-ish feeling. Instead of formulating a new gimmick that would change the meta of FPSes, this game just went straight and re stabilized the traditional First Person genre. It is a classic... but then again... a classic reborn. Combat arms is marvelous to behold, so whether you're an FPS fan or just a random gamer who wants to try something new then this game is for you. This game ROCKS in my book. Pros:- Decent visuals
- Sounds
- Gameplay and control scheme The Bad: - Lag issues
- Frame tearing
- Framerate jump

Path of Exile Early Beta Impressions

By Remko Molenaar (Proxzor), OnRPG Journalist Path of Exile is a free online-only action role-playing game set in the dark fantasy world of Wraeclast. It is currently in a very early beta stage being developed by Grinding Gear Games in New Zealand. I have been paying a lot of attention to Diablo 3 lately and forgot about this game in the meanwhile. When I got the chance to test the game I was quite happy to see Grinding Gear Games make a game that is able to compete with the well-known title Diablo 3.Even though the game is currently in closed beta the graphics are really marvelous looking. The graphical style is dark and sinister, just the way I like my top-down adventures. When creating the character I was able to choose a league, the default league and the hardcore league. The Default league is very basic and is probably the most played league. Since characters can only see and interact with players in their own league, the game encourages the player to be more wisely and start off in the Default league. The Default League is extremely large and where players spend the most of their time. In the Hardcore League however you have a high risk of losing your character if you aren’t paying attention. Basically this means that if you die while playing in this league your character will have a perm-death. Now don’t be afraid to try out the hardcore league because if the character dies it will be transferred to the Default League so you can play it on there. Unfortunately your character cannot be transferred back after your death so once you are out, it’s over! After I chose to play on the Default League I was able to make my character; there are currently five characters in the game. I went with my tried and true Ranger class. Rangers are specialized in using bows and attack from a distance like they would in any MMO. Attacking is done by clicking on nearby monsters; you can also use different spells which can be customized on different mouse buttons or QWERTY buttons. I was a bit put off when going over the controls that there was no way to rotate my camera. I might be a bitchy person, but this is really an option that I have been missing in Path of Exile. Sometimes I wanted to screencap the action from a different angle, but unfortunately it isn’t possible. I do hope they will add this feature in the future but I won’t get my hopes up.My first objective ingame was to get safely to a small camp. To navigate it was of course time to pull out ye ol’ MMO minimap. Path of Exile decided to break the norm and place the minimap as a big overlay in the middle of your screen so you can view the surrounding world without taking your eyes off of the action surrounding your character. There are six classes announced for Path of Exile, however there are currently only five classes available in the game. These classes are: The Marauder, Ranger, Witch, Duelist and Templar. The Marauder is a class that uses brute strength to equip themselves with huge weapons. The Marauders use their raw brute power from a close range to battle monsters with different skills that incapacitate enemies on contact. The Ranger is able to use a fast attack speed to overcome heartier foes. They are capable of wielding several different weapons to unleash multiple playing styles. Do you prefer to attack from range? Then the bow might be more suited for you. If you prefer the close combat style you want to equip yourself with some daggers. The Witch is the class that is specialized in the use of magical powers. Because of the intelligence this class possesses she is the unmatched master of elemental attacks and dark arts. She creates impenetrable barriers and raises fallen enemies to fight against their former comrades. The Duelist is the most confident or as some people see it the most arrogant character in the game. They use the power of a wide array of weapons to fill the standard roguish role. The Templar is a class for the more wise men among us; they use weapons of steel and a shield of righteousness to fend themselves off against their foes. The Templar is a Strength/Intelligence hybrid in Path of Exile. They are trained in an array of weapons from the sharpest cutlass to the heaviest two handed mace. They can also utilize their oversized shield as a deadly bludgeon.Hopefully the last class will bring a full healing/supportive class to the current addition of classes. Most likely this will be a class that would be the most important class in a party, bringing along enough buffs and spells to help their allies fend of their foes. The choice of how to play your character is all yours in Path of Exile. The player is able to choose from a massive list of passives and branching skill paths for their character. I can honestly say it is the largest branching skill tree I have ever seen in any game. That way every character has a uniquely made build that can affect the game play in many situations. Not only can you customize yourself to meet the challenge of tougher dungeons, you can also equip yourself with surprises to keep your enemies on their toes in PvP.In every map there are loads of chests and corpses scattered around the map that can possess different loot. Unfortunately your inventory isn’t big enough to carry around all that precious loot you just found. You will have to make a choice between what you want to keep and what item you will have to drop in order to loot the more precious loot that you desire. There is currently not much room in your bag so pack rats beware. Hopefully they will add a slightly bigger inventory because after finding a few weapons your bag is stuffed. This is however much more realistic since a single man cannot drag along 10 different kinds of armor and weapons. The graphics in Path of Exile are really good looking and this will set the standard for Diablo III and other similarly styled games to beat. To play this game full of good looking eye candy just about any computer will do. However the options exist to really pump up the resolution for maximum enjoyment. Currently they are advertising that the game will even support the maximum resolution of 2560x1600. So if you have bought a huge monitor that supports this resolution and feel like playing this game on a really big screen, knock yourself out.I didn’t want to make the comparison with Diablo 2/3 that much but unfortunately Path of Exile didn’t leave me to any choice. This game has the distinctly Diablo 2 feel in its animation and playstyle. Path of Exile however adds unique classes and a truly impressive skill tree system to make the genre into its own. If you can copy another game and create something even better than I say more power to you! Path of Exile chose to walk this path and has produced a challenging and addictive role-playing game worthy of OnRPG’s referral.

Starcraft 2 Journey To Diamond League

I was sure I had lost the game because almost all my drones at my expansions were gone but thankfully he was still on one base. He did not quit coming at me with banshees and eventually Vikings, so I thought it was a good idea to build some mutalisks. This way I could harass his only base which would drastically reduce his income and kill off his air army.  With my ground and air army, I marched to his base, broke his wall and went right for the starports. I did not want to fight more air units, I hate them. He conceded after losing his starports.。

Two days later I was put up against a Terran. I almost pulled an Idra (In case you did not get the reference, Idra is a professional player that left a won game because he thought he was behind.)。

I was minding my own business mining on my three bases when the Terran decided to send some banshees my way. Keep in mind that unlike Terran and Protoss, Zerg have limited options to counter air early on. Air units appear frequently in bronze league so I built some evolution chambers early on just in case. These allow me to build spore crawlers which are the static air defense for the Zerg race.。

 。

 。

 。

This is the beginning of a new series here at OnRPG, “My Journey to Diamond League”. These bi-weekly articles will record my matches and progress in Starcraft II. My goal is to advance from the bronze league to diamond. Due to the length of this article, the first column will be split into a 2 part series.。

 。

 。

Now, let us dive right into the games.。

 。

 。

 。

While it is true that I have not played a lot of Starcraft before, I did play a couple of hours of Starcraft II when I bought it a couple months ago. I did not find myself playing it a lot because I was not enjoying myself. After seeing the pros play at MLG with their incredible speed and unique play styles, I was tempted back to the league.。

 。

I am not happy that I did not gain any ranks this week. I was busy with school exams so I did not have a lot of time to play Starcraft. In part 2 I will cover my second week and the beginning of my rise to Silver League! Look forward to seeing it early next week!。

My second game that same day was versus a Terran. While he did have a good plan to harass me with reapers it was not well executed on the micro level. He stood around with his reapers for too long to the point where I could easily fend off any harassment. Since he only focused on constructing one base and poked me ineffectual harassment, I continued to develop my economy. I achieved victory by destroying his main base with zerglings and banelings. I might have lost the game if he attacked me with his reapers because I was not building an army at that time. Keep in mind that reapers can jump over walls, so he could have easily harassed me multiple times without losing any units.。 。

The ranking system is divided into seven leagues. These are bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond and masters. You might notice that I have only listed six; we will come to the seventh league later on. You may be promoted to these leagues based on your hidden matchmaking rating. This rating goes up or down depending on your matches. It does not increase by a set value so it is nearly impossible to calculate. A victory over a better opponent will award you with more points while a loss to a worse opponent will result in losing more points. When you begin the game, you must play five placement matches. Your initial rank will be decided based on your performance throughout these games.  You may not view your win to loss ratio until you achieve master’s league. Also, each league is divided into separate divisions which each include 100 players. The final league is called the grandmasters league and this league only includes the 200 top players on the server which are selected by Blizzard.。

 。

 。

When I first did my placement matches I was surprisingly placed in silver league but due to my lack of knowledge, I got kicked down to bronze. That is the point at which I quit playing because I was busy with other games but frustration might have been a factor. I do not like losing.。

After watching MLG, I hopped back on Starcraft and used some of the new tricks I learned from the players and streamers. Now I am rank 8 bronze in my division, this is where my journey will begin.。

 。

 。

In simplest terms, Starcraft II is a game where the player must build up an army to take out his opponents buildings. Once all buildings have been destroyed the player loses. However, games will rarely get to the point where you are destroying all buildings. Players simply concede upon realizing the game is lost.。

 。

His marine, marauder and tank army was no match for my roaches and banelings. While he did hold steady through my first assault, I was able to reinforce my army because of my massive income from four bases. The second assault overwhelmed his remaining defenses.。

Be sure to check out Kluey's Starcraft II Review if you're not familiar with the game! http://www.onrpg.com/MMO/Starcraft-II/review/Starcraft-2-Wings-of-Liberty---RTS-Perfection。

If an opponent is aggressive early on and continues attacking the same base it is considered to be an all-in. If I am able to hold off these acts of aggression, I will be able to overrun him with high quality massed units produced by my stronger economy. Sometimes opponents are smart and continue to develop an economy while forcing you to build army units to hold off attacks. This results in them getting ahead of you economically while throwing you off your game. This seldom happens in Bronze league because this league consists of new and less skilled players.。

 。

By Mohammad Abubakr, OnRPG Journalist。

I believe that I am good at video games. I can rank high in various genres including FPS,MMO and MOBA. What makes Starcraft different from the other genres is that you must manage more than one unit at a time. My one gaming weakness is multitasking; hopefully I will improve by playing Starcraft II.。

 。

 。

I employed one of the key strategies in Starcraft II during my first game; build up a good economy.  My opponent was also a Zerg player but he did not want to develop his economy. His aim was to end the game quickly so he can move on to another match. Since bronze players often try to finish games quickly, I had setup static defense in the form of spine crawlers. His zerglings fell one by one to my superior defensive structures while my army of workers brought in huge hauls of crystal. I used this to my advantage and continued to enhance my own economy.。

 。

 。

My final game this week was against another Terran.  After learning that I should always scout with overlords and run up his ramp from time to time, I saw that he was just getting mass marines and marauders. I later found out he also had tanks. Since he was only on one base, I had a big economic advantage. He did not bother attacking early on, as most people do when on one base so I went ahead and setup four bases.。

 。

 。

 。

My opponent tried his best to delay his inevitable defeat by hiding buildings and setting up a lot of static defense. If he was really in such a hurry to progress to his next game, he should have surrendered sooner because the writing was on the wall early on.。

 。

 。

 。

 。

Being in bronze league means you will rarely play epic matches because they are often full of all-ins and cheese. This means they will pump out units very early and not focus on developing a good economy. I play as a Zerg who is not very aggressive early on and hopes to create longer macro oriented games. This means that I will quickly setup multiple expansions and develop many workers early on to maintain many bases. Army units are seldom built until later on unless necessary to counter an aggressive opponent.。
